Minnow or no minnow? That is the question……….

I have noticed over the last year or so that anglers sometimes catch more fish on the river without a minnow. Is this because that fish are more likely to take a smaller, less bulky bait?

Do you ever go minnow-less and see a difference?

    Thanks,

Ive been on both sides of this line.. at one time I thought you DONT need minnows… not EVER!… then I evolved to “YOU DO NEED THEM, ALWAYS!”… now Im back to mostly you dont need them… but once in a while you do!…. I usually catch LARGER fish without minnows… and there are times when its slow you can catch MORE WITH minnows… but in the end you “net” result will be the same… because you often catch more small fish with minnows….

I have been using plastics (mostly twister tails) for years and one of the main things it helps do is keep the small fish down to a minimum. Especially the ones that just hang on the minnow until you set the hook and lose the minnow.

I always have them in my boat but to this day I have only had 1 time in the last 2 years that minners were the best way to go for me. In my defense I don’t use them as often as I should…….it’s a confidence thing. Everyone has a confidence bait and mine just happens to be plastics. I know a lot of guys who are stricktly minnow fisherman and they do catch a lot of big fish as well. Everything has a time and place when it comes to catching those toothy critters
