What a great day on the water, fished the river for 18 years and thursday caught my first paddle fish and no camera, well today made sure a camera was aboard and can you believe it hooked up on another paddle fish not as big as the thursday one but big enough for a great fight on 4lb fireline

What are the odds of that!
Awesome catches Dan! I would think an experienced river man like yourself would never leave home without a camera but at least you got one of the other

Too bad you didn’t buy a lotto ticket instead of going fishing today! What are the odds of getting 2 paddles in 2 trips!!!! Way to go!

Aren’t they an awesome fish Dan?!

Your experience parallels mine. 2009 was the first year my boat had a paddlefish in it.

This one tipped the digital to 37 pounds.

Remember, I’m using cutbait on a slip sinker while anchored.

Two nights later, I was out by myself and hooked into a strange fighting fish. It didn’t act like a sturgeon or a flathead…it acted more like a HUGE channel cat!

When it came up to the boat, it wouldn’t fit in my Sturgeon size net! It was just too large for me to handle safely by myself. Boat side release.

I’ve seen people keep walleyes smaller than the two lamprey’s on it’s back!

Not sure if they are ugly or unique, but the are fun to catch. Nice fish.

Very nice Dan. Have not caught one myself yet but was lucky enough to be in the boat with a buddy caught one on pool 2 last spring. Very cool fish.

They are very unique looking…can a person fish for them in Minnesota or on Border waters?

(I’m just wondering because I hear stories of fishing for them in North Dakota)

    No,they are protected in Mn.
Being plankton eater they don’t “Bite”.The states that have a season on them are for snagging them.

Anyway, the proceed ect were going to the Hole For Heroes.
The Armed Forces Ice Fishing Festival on Medicine Lake.

I’ll post the details details in the Ice Fishing Contest Forum.
