My partner and I hit the water late morning today with bright sun and light winds. The concrete landing at Bass Camp was under water and the dock was floating out about 20 feet from shore. Fortunately we had tall rubber boots so launching was easy and we started the day over by the long lock wall. We tried several jig colors, minnows, and ring worms with a net of 1 saugeye (released)to show for it at the spot in about an hour . We headed downstream to fish some wingdams but the current was really ripping along. It took my 40 hp on the Lund Rebel 1600 rpm just to hover against the current. Likewise, trying to anchor at a wing dam was really difficult even with a heavy anchor and long rope. I saw some guys have success anchoring but with 2 anchors per boat. We found no active fish at the wing dams we tried to fish.
We headed back to the dam and fished the Wisconsin side right on the channel break. We had limited success with 2- 16 inch walleyes falling to fathead minnows on jigs and 1 huge perch falling for the same. I could not get a pattern running for either superdoos or ringworms but we tried all sorts of presentations. Our observations of other boats in the area could be summarized by 1 Northern, 2 carp and 1 tiny sauger. Water temp was 58.6 (surface) when we left at 6pm. A guy coming off the water told us they fished all night last night and boated one 27 inch walleye.
The day was great, but fishing was no better than what I just read on this forum at Pool 4.
