Left the backchannel landing at about 2:15 today and returned about 4:30. The landing, by the way, is in beautiful shape. So are the jugs–ooops–bottles, marking the closing dam just up from Mr. Sippi’s. Thanks to Randy and others!

John and I fished just below the Y to the Vermillion. Kept it vertical in 22 to 24 fow. That’s him with his nice limit of saugers.

I love the smaller paddletails, but so do small saugers! We then went to pearl and char/orange trigger x minnows with silver and pink glitter heads. Many nice saugers bit on those. Not sure if that made a HUGE difference. It seemed like it did as we didn’t see many other bigger saugers caught.

Just for fun, I ran a clicker on any fish boated. Tally was 51 fish in just over 2 hours. Most were 8 to 12 inchers. We had a great time and many other fisherman appeared to be doing the same.

A little experiment today: I ran one rod with 4 pound mono and the other with 6 pound crystal fireline. I’ve never run a literal side by side comparison–one in each hand–before. Both rods were ML. What a cool way to develop the “feel” for the bite. As you know, stabbing the fish with the fireline was WAYYYY easier. Working the mono was really mushy, by comparison. I knew all that in my brain, but it was awesome to try it.

Get out there this week if you can!

Awesome Scott. Sounds like our day. I love it when the fish are aggressive like that. Gives a person a chance to try different colors and sizes with a little more confidence.

    What time is dinner John?

With the exception of a random strong breeze, it was suntan weather out there.

    Nice report Scott.

Great day, Wade! Don’t those saugers act ticked off at the world when they are caught?

Saw a guy get towed around for at least 25 minutes before he landed a huge sturgeon…hope he posts a pic.

    I know that spot!

Three weekends out and I’ve now seen three flatheads hooked there.

    What a pole bender!!

I know, don’t tell me. It bite because the hook was in it’s mouth. LOL!
