I might be wrong, but unlike a lake, the river is less effected by such changes. Day in and day out people catch fish on the river–but she is a fickle lady that will put even the best fisherman on his ear. Rather than worrying about the effects of weather, pay attention to the flow–current seams are the invisible effect that dictates a fishes life and is the “edge” that active walleyes/saugers will sit on waiting for the conveyer belt of food to come passing by. Forget all the other “factors” and concentrate on that one thing (current seams), and a very large door will open.

On Michigan, we had a similar effect we called ‘cross currents’. drop your lures 30 more feet and they’d go 90* to the boat. FU things bad, but the fish loved em. As you say, a conveyor belt of food…
I’ve been studying them here, but i’m still not good at it.
Hope you have an open seat some day…

I fished today (monday) from 10:30 to 3:00, had sporatic action, flurries here and there pretty typical from my experince, fish moods really varied throughout the day, had much more success by fishing with my flasher on my bowmount really let me hone in on fish reactions to both jigging pattern and style of plastics, etc.
Fished vertical all day with most success coming on paddle tails and lizards.
Boated about fifteen, 5 in the 16-19 range, the others 6-14 inchers, LOTS of short biters, found the smaller fish being much more agressive, the nicer fish were really just holding the jig, would just se um on the flasher, feel tension and set the hook.
All in all not horible day given the early December weather, and not fishing a low light period, would’ve loved to stick around through dusk, but just a little cool for my liking to stay out throgh and beyond dusk, Oh yeah and only three other boats out today.
I think next weekend were supposed to have meather in the upper twenties, so hopefully be able to do it again next week.

I was out Sunday late afternoon and did well on numbers of saugers. None over 17. Most were in the 10 to 12 inch range. And a few not much bigger than the ringworm. Little tikes. Threw all fish back to swim.

Had some guys with me that liked reeling in, so I put a sinker and hook on the bottom with a small minnow. It was seriously attacked by small saugers time after time. Fun for reeling in…not for keeping.

By the sound of it, downsizing for us was key compared to Friday and Saturday.

Next weekend will be fun too!
