Hey, do any of you Hastings area folks know if the launch at Hastings and Prescott is open all year?

Is the river open from Prescott to Hastings Jan/Feb?

Lastly, what’s the seasonal launch pass running now a days at Prescott for out of towners?

    Thanks!

ramps are open year round. but i know the hastings one is not plowed out. not sure about prescott

river typically freezes in hastings by january, but if we have a warm winter, you will be able to run it. as long as you can find an open launch to get on the river. even if the channel is open, you may have a sheet of ice to deal with at the hastings access.

not sure about seasonal pass for prescott. i know its 10 a day for non-residents.

odds are, i highly doubt you’ll be able to get on the river and fish in hastings. unless you wanted to gamble and try icefishing…

Don’t forget the season closes Feb 26 for gamefish. The river from the Hastings dam to the St Croix confluence. Inland rules, one line, Mn license, yada, yada….

It seems most years the Mississippi river is frozen shore-to-shore just above the confluence in January and February. I suspect that stretch will be frozen over by the end of this week if we really do get down to the single digits. Up closer the to Hastings dam the water may be open but getting there will be very difficult.

I think you need an air boat.

Thanks Jon, I don’t know how many times I’ve gone in that area and started tossing out a second line.

i’m lost. i thought that stretch of river was MN/WI boundary water. If so, the WI side would be three lines…

It’s Minnesota inland water. No border water rule. (Minnesota land on both sides of the river from Prescott to the Dam)

i looked more closely at a map. understand now. don’t know why i thought the Hastings dam was BELOW Prescott…

thanks… i’ might have dumped in at prescott and headed up river with three lines deployed!!!

Anyone know if they fixed the public launch in Hastings? I seem to remember earlier this year someone posted that they would be fixing the ramp this fall since the lower portion washed out from the flooding last year.

I tried launching from there in Oct. Key word is ‘Tried’. It still needed work at that time.

odds are pretty slim at running into a warden on the river up there at this time of the year.

    i say deploy away!

supposedly….it is supposed to be fixed for the 2012 season. but, who knows. i also heard the DNR and city were still fighting about who was going to pick up the tab.

what they need to do, is dig a small harbor in, which will make it much nicer to launch at, and also help with erosion from the strong current, being directly below the dam.

    just my $.02 though…

That and launching right into on coming barge traffic. If no harbor, a couple docks in there would be real nice. Maybe a breakwall just upstream???

i’ve been told they cannot do that because the barges could potentially need the channel all the way to that shore. that is why they have it cut deep all the way to that shore line.

that is also why the city docks were installed 4 miles downstream from the launch…
