Hey guys, I have a couple cool pictures to share. We all know that a lot of these fish get caught multiple times but very few have features that stand out from the crowd.

This one is from last year 11/16/10. It was one of the chubbiest fish I seen last fall and I have had a crush on her ever since because of that big black beauty mark on the cheek.
Last night John and I made it out there for what might be the last night of the year now. Finished with another great night on the river. We ran into Mike, John, and Joel. Good to see you guy!! and was able to get a few good pictures in the snow! Highlight of the night was John bringing this girl back into the boat! 54 weeks after her first kiss

This time there was a scale in the boat and she went 10.25. Crazy part is that she really didnt gain much length but sure carried the girth! Nice fish John! That one made my night even though I didnt even catch it! Before we pulled the plug for the night I was able to put the icing on the cake with one just under 10!

Good luck out there guys and be safe if you do try and go!! Take it SLOW!! We were running into alot of dinner table size slabs of ice already. Olny an inch or two thick but thats all it takes. And it will olny get worst now.

Great fish guys. Very cool to see a fish caught a year apart like that. The catch n release regulation on Pool 2 is a wonderful thing.

Catch and release is the greatest thing to ever happen to fishing in general, and Pool 2 is awesome because of the special regulation.

We should name that fish “Marilyn” after someone else with a famous beauty mark. It’d be cool to hear that someone else catches her next year! Or better yet, maybe I’ll catch her again.

Pretty sure last night was the last night of a great fall of fishing. We had a heck of a time getting out of the landing. I’ll post some pictures of that later.

Curious about how far Susie Q had moved. Was she in the exact same spot or did she move a few miles? Great fish and photos.

She was on a different part of the same spot, but within 100 feet of where Joe caught her in 2010.

Pretty close to the same spot like john said. Ate a salt shaker paddle last year and a oyster moxie this year… Not that matter much because she looked like she ate everything in the river!!
I honestly believe these big fish stop at there prefered resting areas every year while in transition to there winter and spawning grounds…. Sure its not the 1st one we had caught a year or two before.

guys! It was nice seeing you as well. Mike and Nick had a fish like that a few years ago by the power plant. I can’t remember what they called her….

I think they called her Suzie. That was the fish with the chunk of meat missing from her back, right?

Thats the one! I was waiting for someone to pick up on that! I think Steve D caught Susie as well. I remember there were a few sightings!

One more question about Susie Q. Susie Q weighed 10.25 lbs. Did you measure her length? Also, did you get a length on the fish that was was just under 10 lbs. I’d guess witht the girth on those fish that it’d only take about 28.5″ to make 10 lbs. Am I close?

    Thanks,

    Boone

Believe it or not, she was shorter than 28″. Between 27.5″ and 27.75″ as I recall. The fish that came in just under 10# was about the same length (or maybe 28″ on the mark) to the best of my memory. Maybe Joe would remember.

I didn’t weigh every big fish in November, but I can tell you that an average build 29″ this fall on the river is 10# no problem, and a lot of the fish between 28″ and 29″ were 10#+. Biggest was a fish Joe caught that went 11.5#. It was a horse of a 30.5″, but didn’t have the build of Suzie Q. It was part of a double … I’m holding a 26″+ and Joe’s fish makes me look stupid.

I already can’t wait for next fall.

Here’s another pic of Suzie Q, just to show off that build a little more. You’ll see a few fish with her build in late March/early April, but not very often in the fall.

she measured 27.75. Without all the girth we might have been able to pull 28 but was just short. Weighed 10.25 lbs. I caught one just after that was just under 10 that is pictured above.

I should have a scale along in the boat! I was olny able to weight a handfull in the 28-30.5 range with John…. Some of the ones that really blow me away are the 25-26 inch fish that can go 8+lbs!!!! Seem to run into a couple of those every fall. Just never have a scale with. Mike W and I weight a fish a few years ago that was a hair under 25″ and weighed 7.14 on his scale Cant be healthy

Sorry Boone, I missed your question… The second fish just under 10 was the same lenght. just under 28. Olny difference between the two was a little girth and a black dot on the face

I finally downloaded some more pictures and have some time to look at them today. Another picture of a double that John and I had a trip before. Both these fish ate a crank bait!!! There is a untouched pattern out there every year and John and I found one! Didnt out produce plastics but put lots fish in the boat up and down the river this fall!!!

I don’t see why a slow fished crank wouldn’t put fish in the boat. I meant to try it but didn’t. Looks like if you can get a boat out in the next few days we might be getting an extended season.

Thanks for the information guys. A true 10 lb walleyes is very rare but with the girth these fish have on them, it seems like now might be the best chance a person has to get one. Hopefully we can still get out some more this year.

I was out with a buddy before Thanksgiving and caught a 27 incher that had a really nice girth on her. My buddy said something like, “That the fattest walleye I’ve seen since… um … ah…err… ever. That’s the fattest walleye I’ve ever seen.” And he’s seen a lot of walleyes. We didn’t weigh her but we both guessed it easily made 8 lbs.

    Thanks Again,

    Boone
