Its been a while since Ive posted a report…. and Ive not seen much other information either…. Ive been out twice in the last week and its been pretty similar both times…
today the water was up, but not muddy at all….. we went up towards the dam… fished both the Mn and the Wi side… caught fish on both…. it wasnt great and it wasnt bad….. no real pattern emerged, except we did best on plastics… particularly plastics that contained glitter… there were 2 of us, and we easily caught over 2 limits of keeping sized fish… biggest was a 3# walleye, though there were a couple of egg filled sauger that were pretty close to that weight…. we only caught 2 walleyes… the rest were saugers… mostly females… most productive depth seemed to be around 24’… but that changed regularly…. because people would see us catch fish at that depth then they would rush out there and dive them out…. then we would catch them shallower and people would move in… kind of funny….
I dont have any fish pix… but took a couple of eagle shots…..

these eagle pix were not all that good… but I did not get many shots at them.. they seemed to stay far away… guess they did not want to get shot with a canon!….

RiverEyes….that are great pics…I like the way the Sun is profiling the first eagle….It’s almost shows the bird as a Higher Power….Nice job

I was out there too yesterday, I tried plenty of things, none of them could catch me a fish < I’m thinking of changing my handle to riverskunk

TBO and hit it also and did not fair to well. Sticking it out at the dam seemed to be the thing to do. We did not do this. Instead we went looking for the great bit else where that was just not there yesterday. Ended the day with a few eyes that where taken by pitching the shallow in the dam area.
It was still a good day on the water.

Eyes……cool pics. It almost appears that the eagle has a glowing look coming off its back. A truly beautiful bird and an American icon! What kind of camera do you use BTW? Thanks for the fishing update as well!

that eagle was calmy sitting there along the channel on the Mn side we drifted right by him… the sun was coming from behind him giving him the halo… I use a Digital SLR called a Canon Rebel…. with a 500mm Sigma lens… the Rebel has a 1.6 cropping factor which renders this lens equivalent to 800mm.. which is the equivalent to a magnification of 16x (50mm is considered 1x)…..
Ive been pretty busy shooting migrating wildlife lately… shot a trumpeter swan last week.. they put big yellow bands around their necks!… kind of ugly really…..
    heres a wood duck I shot 2 days ago….
(sorry to turn this into a photo thread!)….
on the fishing yesterday… we found that staying up by the dam put fish in the boat.. Wi side, Mn side… using plastics with glitter in them… particularly blue and purple colors… when we did this we averaged 1 fish a drift… we only caught one under 15″ fish all day…. people using minnows were catching more of the smaller fish….
