After feeling like a squirrel being in a tree so much as of late I made a trip up to the “river” yesterday and man what a day it was. We caught fish on blades, moxies, ringworms, paddle-tail, lizards, jig/minnow, and trolling 3 way double raps yesterday and EVERYWHERE. Noon we decided to switch it up and chase crappies and of course first cast with 1/16 ounce jig into the rocks BAHM 22″ eye After messing around with them for a few hours we went back and vertical jigged and after making a few minor tweaks (clouds rolled in) it was back to work again!
With the water hanging around that 40 degree level now jigging is a very sensitive game. Just simply bump bottom lift 8″-12″ and hold it dead still. Watch the graph and if it drops a foot then drop your rod tip a foot and hold it. If you over jig you will be a watching people catch fish and not catching them. Second tip bring minnows if you want but your average size will be MUCH better with plastics. Numbers are better with minnows but screw getting your hands that cold for dinks!
Good to see a few faces I have not seen for a while out there. An once again thanks Randy and company on the work with the ramp as well and keeping me company for a while yesterday! I launched at Bay Point with my plans of fishing south of town and had to break ice getting in so I am assuming after this weekend back channel ramp only now boys
Here is the biggest crappie of the day touching the ruler at the 15″ mark
