Good night on pool 2 tonight. Here’s a pic of my personnel best eye at 29″. Also 2 at 20″ and a 24.5″. The bite was fairly steady but they were hitting light. I was throwing 1/8 oz. dragging jigs tipped with Moxies on the wing dams. The big one was actually below the dam so running the trolling motor and covering the whole dam worked best.

Purple flake with chartreuse tail was the hottest.

Gary! Jon and I saw you cruising around out there. It was slow for our boat just a few around 21″. Purple charteuse moxie was what caught fish for us too.

Thanks for taking me out JJ!

Way to go Gary…nice to catch up with you out there. I didn’t see Joel and Jon but the bite was slow for me last night too. Only a couple of smaller fish on an oystershell ringworm.

If I’m looking like a yooper in that pic Tom, It’s probably because I still am.

The bite was a little off again yesterday but we managed 15 walleyes. Plenty in the 24″ to 26″ range. Very nice evening of fishing. Casting and draggin firecracker/chartreuse tail moxies on 1/8th draggin jigs was the ticket. For the most part the fish where smacking them pretty hard. Tom will get some photos up when he gets back home. Thanks for a great trip Tom. Thanks for the tip on the color Gary. And I sure am glad Joe’s stocks Moxies for being able to quickly pick up that one last color I didnt carry.

Mike, how late do you usually fish? better question…. can you catch fish well past sundown?

I’m not Mike, but I feel pretty confident answering this question.
We fish way past sundown this time of year and quite honestly, the water is getting so clear that this is really the only decent bite available when it comes to walleyes and pitching light jigs. You can catch plenty of saugers during the day vertical jigging but if you’re interested in pitching light jigs to wing dams then night time is the only time around this time of year.

I dont usually stay out to late. Right at sunset there can be a pretty good bite going if you are on the right spot at the right time. Some evenings those spots are all over the place. Other evenings it can be real hit and miss.

Im sure you can catch fish well past sundown and all threw the night but be careful out there. I hit a 20′ pipe floating down the river last Saturday right as the sun was setting. Heard of a couple of the regulars tagging a cone and damaging there boat a few nights before that. Fishing at night can be fun but you need to be careful.

Thanks guys, thats what I figured with as clear and slow moving the water is now. Just wanted to know if it were worth staying out there and wasn’t limited to a short time period.

Those cans really sneak up on you in the dark, I hate the idea of hitting one of those, let alone all the other hazards the river will throw at you, safety first!

I’ll be fishing somewhere monday haven’t decided if it’ll be pool 2 or 4 yet. Thanks for the continued assistance with pool 2.

    Thank You Mike!
I had a great time (as always) fishing with you… Too bad neither of us brought a scale because some of those Walleye were the heaviest I’ve ever seen for the length!
Wait till you guys see the pictures of some of these P-2 TANKS!!!

Mike put a clinic on me for quite a stretch… just wait until next year boss! I’ll get the hang of pitching those tiny draggin jigs!

I’m sure glad I wore my Gamehide last night for some long hours in the rain/wind and staying warm and dry…
