I was just wondering if anyone has had a little luck locating some bigger eyes on pool 16? I’ve been out probably 6 or 7 times in the past 2 weeks. So far I’ve caught a bunch of small saugers with a couple 16’s. I’ve also caught a few fat little walleyes, one nasty mudpuppy, and a shovelnose.

That puppy would probably eat half the sauger I’ve been catching…

i can’t speak for the guys fishign around the credit island wing dams but we haven’t seen alot of big fish move up into the slough. some days you can catch 20-30 small sauger in the north end of the slough by the arsenal in the boat. down the stretch to the railroad bridge there is virtually no flow and no fish.

i caught a 18″ a week and a half ago. the only keeper i’ve had in a handful of times out. otherwise, lots of shorts. boat or shore.

I haven’t tried the wing dams down by Credit Island since they had gill nets out (little over 2 weeks ago). I was kind of interested fishing up by the lock piers but, I’m not sure how shallow or if there are a lot of rocks up there. I’ve fished both dams up in the slough with similar results of small guys.

Blind eyes, what’s the river stage/current flow down there right now? May be able to give you a tip or two.

Have you tried the back eddy down by Enchanted Island or the closing dam at the head of Andalusia Slough and the one just below Andalusia Harbor or the clam beds? There is also Velie Chute, on the Andalusia side there is a nice wintering hole that usually holds some nice fish. Most people concentrate up by Sylvan Slough this time of year. But most of the better fishing is still down river. Do you have a river map? I could help you out more if you do. Fell free to PM me.

Have you tried going down to pool 17(Muscatine)? The bite has been better and I think the quality it better also this year. The blade bait and hair jig bite is on. Fish the top four miles up to the dam.

I’ve only fished pool 14 and 16 since I’ve moved to the QC in August. I believe the water level for pool 16 is around 5.3 or 5.4 ft. Low/no flow below the 280 bridge.By the way, thanks for inputs everyone. I was also wondering if there was anywhere I could find some bigger minnows, shiners, red tails, etc…?

Don’t forget pool 18(New Boston). Was my home pool for years, and since the slot limit gives up some nice fish. Good luck on the bigger baits…never had luck with that. Used to be a place in Pekin that sold some nice shiners, once a year I’d do a desperation drive down there and load up. This was before I got turned onto plastics
Ringworms, paddletails, etc. REALLY cold water, Gulp Alive(bigger sizes) worked well for me, but not so much in water above 38 degrees. Pool 16 thru 18 can give up some good fishing, especially now while 14 on up are fighting the eel grass.

Thanks for all the awesome info guys. I’m going through withdrawals because my work schedule has kept me off the water for a week now. Once I get the chance to get on the water I will let you know how it goes.
