I was there Saturday for a few hours in the morning. Weather was windy but mild. Fishing was tough. I started up by the dam looking but not finding much. Managed one sauger in about 18′ of water. Caught it on a Fisher Flick jig.
We also sneaked midway between the dam and the landing and watched a group of boats working a wing dam. I never saw them catch anything but they stayed in a pretty tight bunch so something must have been happening.
From fishing this spot so much before my gut feeling is fishing will bust open real soon. Just enough fish were caught to keep everyone alert, and they came from several areas.
If I had the chance to go this week I’d not hesitate.
Stop in at the Main Channel for some friendly advice. Lee will certainly give some pointers where to start.
He might even sell you a couple of those pre-scented jigs he makes. Seems the local fish eat them like ice cream…
