I can tell you where NOT to go and that’s the dam area.

I know I have seen postings on the work being done by the dam… is that area all changed from years past? It was sort of our go to area (like so many others) when our attempts down river were not working. Yea, I’m one of the twice a year if lucky guys. Last fall all the equipment was moving into what I think they called the clam bed area.

I would try down below Covill Park by the “high banks” .. I would work 3′ – 10′ of water with light jigs either tipped w/minnow or plastics & hair… Good Luck and report back … Thanks, “Hairjig”

If it’s not all changed yet…it will be.

Fishing the sand above the sand bar or the “clam bed” from the culvert down about two block hasn’t been disrupted yet.

I don’t have the map handy, but they can’t disturb areas were there are certain clams…and that’s one area. I’m speaking of “in” the water.

The shore line is being disturbed from the dam all the way down to the corner of the Y.

Reading the water is still #1, regardless of time of year, so yes to your question. Mother nature will be delivering a very good bite soon, she seems to have her own schedule the past couple years and doesnt always follow our calender.

All I can say is my mouth dropped when I got to the Vermillion…what there is of it…the Wi side from there up is going to be a new ballgame to learn…Tugs/Barges coming in and out of the top of the “sand” causing boats to pull anchor and relocate was annoying, not to mention the water being mucked up…

    Tom-
Am I to understand that the water level is way down this fall? Cause I was over there in Aug and there was plenty of water to get up into the Vermilion. Tx in advance.

Water level is to the bottom of the Everts launch pads…The mouth of the Vermilion has dead heads sticking up out of the water…The lower Vermilion drainage is a 3 foot sandbar above the Mississippi and dry back to the main branch.

Jim told me that it’s this low so they could work on the projects.
