Nornally I fish Mississippi R. from the Ford dam down to the junction with the MN river. Primarily I flyfish for SMB but end up taking a fair share of walleyes and white bass as well. Does anyone have any info as to the fishing if I go through the lock and into the stretch of river upstream from the Ford dam? Thanks in advance.

I’ve never fished that stretch but had to say Welcome to IDO! Always happy to see another fly fisherman here.

The Smallmouth fishing in the summer months on Pool 1 can be phenomenal! Lots of smaller fish but some very nice (18″-21″) ones mixed in as well. Was just down there last weekend and bass fishing was pretty slow.. not much flow and the fish were deeper. Did catch about 25 Channel Cats though. Fun times! As far as the Walleyes go they are there in pretty good numbers as well although I’ve never caught anything over 5 Lbs.

I know the scenery and sandstone are very cool above the damn. I have boated through that lock once.
