Over the last three weeks or so I sure have noticed the river walleyes and saugers starting to plump up. Its wasnt to long ago our suagers where still coming in long and skinny with that almost hollow belly look. Now both them and the walleye are looking very solid and round. Also noticed the walleyes today putting up a real good fight and when in the boat many had their fins sticking straight out.

Havent seen any real big sumo belly fish yet but its getting closer.

I noticed the same Mike. I headed to pool 3 for the first time today and ended up with a few for the dinner table. One 19″ fish had eggs in her, and another had two solid pieces of fat lining each side of the stomach. At least I assumed it was fat. The pieces were solid white and were about 5″ long. Kind of like love handles. Can anyone confirm that is what I was looking at?

    Yeah, swim bladder.

A little crude but here is a basic sketch of a fish http://www.aboutfishonline.com/articles/fishanatomy.html

    That’s funny!
I pulled in a 27incher this last wednesday that was the most sickly looking eye I’ve seen in pool 2, it had a bad case of anorexia. It just pounded my jig and twister but put up absolutely no fight. I doubt the walleye weighed 4lbs.

    Tight Lines!

On the other hand take a look at the one Louis caught in the hair jig post. That thing has a gut all ready. Im waiting for more to show up like that.

I was not looking at the swim bladder. There was a pair of them and were solid bright white. As far as I know, there is only one swim bladder per fish. I should have taken a picture.

I noticed that on a sauger that I cleaned yesterday, I would be curious to know what it is.

That would be Mr. Walleyes soon to be love juice. Diced breaded and fried Yum Yum! Looks like chicken tastes like mushrooms.

In my case it was a female with eggs, so that doesn’t work
