Got out with my sis and Marty on Thurs. We had succes with the rig and also draggin. The fish seemed to be in the 8 to 12 foot range. water temps are down to 61 and the river is at its lowest for the year now. Be careful I bumped a log on Friday that I have never hit before in the back channel. We had 5 keepers on Thursday with a few nice crappies and the on friday We had 9 keepers with some being 17 inch saugers.

    Good luck out there!!!!!

Three of us fished on Friday mid-afternoon and Saturday morning, on our way back from a trip in Central MN. Ended up with 18 eater sauger and eyes, all caught dragging plastics at the can line at the head of the lake. Tried anchoring and pitching a couple spots, but not takers, so went back to the dragging. There was a procession of boats, most of them appearing to be trolling cranks, and most getting fish. We left fish to find fish on Friday late afternoon, to go pitch the wing dams and corners, with a few hits but no fish. Not a single boat around the dam on Friday, except for one that rolled in at dark. Now that’s a change.

My son and I were out Saturday, launching out of Bay Point. No luck with walleyes. Sounds like Z-Man had it dialed in. Talked to a guy as were leaving Saturday late afternoon who said the same thing about the can line (he’d been using 3 ways, jig/cranks). Any thoughts on whether the eyes/saugers will hang around can line for awhile? Or when they might start moving up closer to Red Wing? Still early in the fall I guess. Also, have you guys who are catching eyes noticing any preference on time of day when they’re biting? I caught quite a few (mostly smaller) last Thursay around Everett’s late in the day.

We started fishing on Friday about 2pm with blue-bird skies and no other boats around, and started catching pretty quick….left at 5 or so to check out low light bite in the areas near the dam. On saturday, we only had a few hours to fish before heading home, so hit the can line at sun-up and got bit pretty quick again. No magic spot…just kept dragging three or four cans and back we went to start over. Not an expert by any means, but I would guess this bite and the river bite should only get better over the next few weeks, with an improved bite in the upper stretches as we move into late October. Good luck if you head back.
