There is a group of local guys that are going to keep the BACK CHANNEL RAMP open all winter. They will plow the ramp and keep it ice free. There will be salt and sand at the ramp for all to use as needed. The back channel ramp is ONLY 2 and half miles from the dam. YES THE RAMP IS FREE.! .rrr

That is correct.September 16, 2011 at 12:19 am #995164Is that group of guys going to be looking for donations from other boaters that use the ramp to enjoy a day of fishing? If so, who do we contact?

September 16, 2011 at 2:33 am #995188though i haven’t been able to keep up on events for the last month or so I though Everts was becoming an OK place to visit again?
Damn, I miss you Deano… I’m going to have to start saving for a Skeeter now. But going to P4 will never be the same without disrupting your sleep and still getting a warm welcome from you.
September 16, 2011 at 12:38 pm #995222Way to go Randy! you guys are to be commended for your efforts….Thank you, “Hairjig”

Could not agree more, you beat me to it. I am awaiting the answer to this.
It would also be useful to get a sign put up reguarding cold weather launching ettiquite. like draining the and trailer before pulling completely out. and other items.I guess we could all grab a bag of salt from the gas station and leave it there too when dropping in to help with expences…
September 16, 2011 at 2:07 pm #995257Any chance you guys could come up to pool 2 and keep our ramps open in the winter? Way to go down there guys.

September 17, 2011 at 1:50 am #995414How about the new president of the Back Channel Welcoming Committee? I like your way of thinking, Randy. If we could build a bait shop & a fish house there, we would REALLY be in business!! LMAO!
Josh’s father-in-law from WisconsinSeptember 21, 2011 at 4:35 pm #996389I’ll contribute however I can to the WI back channel ramp($, salt, etc) and grin as I fly past my previous favorite baitshop.

October 9, 2011 at 3:51 pm #1000202Just off hwy 63 on the WI (easternmost) channel. Drive hwy 63 across the river from Red Wing to WI and you can’t miss it there next to the easternmost bridge.
October 9, 2011 at 9:14 pm #1000242What’s it like getting up river from there? Is there a wingdam above the landing that is a bit of a hazard?

Let me know who I can send a donation to Randy!
October 11, 2011 at 8:05 pm #1000686bags of water softner salt will work just as good to melt the ice as the expensive “ice melt” salt does, 40 lbs for about 5 bucks I use the solar salt, not the pellets. I’ve been using it for years at my home, doesn’t hurt the cement yet works very well
November 26, 2011 at 2:11 pm #1012177I bumped this to warn the Wi Channel Landing users about the Closing Dam 1/4 mi north of the landing that goes completely across the river.
There is a spot in the middle that is lower and somewhat safer to cross, but with this low water, ALL passages are to be questioned.
GO SLOW and unlock your LU if that is possible.
November 26, 2011 at 11:05 pm #1012264I don’t know if this project is still a go or if it’s been scrapped.
I have a metal drop safe I would donate to your cause if you think it would help. I would suggest welding a chain to it and chaining it to a tree. It wouldn’t stop somebody who really wanted it but it would make them work a bit. We all know thieves tend to be lazy.
It stands 18″ tall and is about 10″ square. As you can see it has a slot people could drop a few bucks into when they launch. It’s constructed so that the money can’t be fished out through the slot. If you use it I would suggest somebody empty it often to deter the kids and / or thieves.
Send me a PM if interested.
