HI All, it’s that time of year again. March 1, new licences: fishing, boat trailer ( check out the new permanent trailer licences, it is the way to go), and make sure your boat req is current. see you on the water. Jack.

For smaller (light duty) trailers such as boat trailers, in Minnesota you can buy a “permanent” license – cost is

about double that of a normal renewal

Does the licence stay with the trailer when you sell or trade or can it transfer to a new trailer that you buy? Probably not is my guess but worth asking. Thanks

I asked at the license bureau when I bought mine – I was told the permanent license was transferable

I just bought a license for my trailer. The license is indeed transferable and is also permanent. No more license fees! The bureau where I bought mine claimed that this is the only license available now. No other is allowed when you renew. In fact, the fees were no different from the former ones. They have no more semi-annual tags and you just don’t get a choice. Apparently, someone got wise and decided that trailer licensing was more of a pain in the neck than an actual revenue item.
