I recently heard that the power plant has been down, is this true, and if so, when is the return time. last week your reports did show some warming water, it’s back down again, but so has the weather. thanks Jack.

Hea Jack, I don’t know much more than what I read about it. It seems to me that it was up and running and the water temperture climbed up to around 40, then the cold front hit and drove the water temp. back down. Do they turn this plant on and off all the time? I would think it would be on most the time this time of the year. Maybe I don’t understand what the plant is used for…………any comments from any of you local guys on this

The plant has 2 units that produce electricity. One unit was taken off-line for a refueling and maintenance outage in early Feb. It should be back to full power now. The plant is only taken off-line for outages or when a reactor trips (which may occur for a variety of reasons). The next outage I believe is scheduled for November.

Stayed at the river last night. Heard on Red Wing radio that power plant was just fired up to full capacity yesterday. Been 1/2 shut down for regular maintence for 38 days

Water temps yesterday ranged from 32.7′ in the early AM to 35′ late in the afternoon. If that plant is up and running again to full-capacity then this is the coldest temps I’ve ever seen when day time temps are fairly mild.

Oh, I don’t dount the radio station that says it’s running… I’m sure it is. Water is just awful darn cold. Or maybe its like grandma used to say… “a watched pot never boils.” Maybe if we stop talking about it the temperature will rise!

I’m just like any other fisherman that is perplexed by a slow bite…. I’m looking for excuses…LOL Must be the cold water…. the weather…. the wind direction… or maybe the lack of wind, yeah, that’s the ticket.

I’m holding that one in reserve. That’s my big gun. Who can argue with “too many baitfish?” You can’t be proved wrong… “they were thick all over a minute ago!”
