Looking for Blue Fleck or any other member that fishes Pool 8 regularly. I’m coming up to Pool 8 from Chicago in two weeks to fish. We will be staying in Brownsville, fish from a boat and trailer to various ramps to cover more area. Could you please provide a brief fishing report on walleye, SM and LM bass, Crappie would be great too. Any hints on location types and presentations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Things are changing rapidly on pool 8 right now. Hard to predict two weeks out. The river is finally at normal stage, but the current is a bit high. As long as the water doesn’t shoot back up, there should be walleyes on wing dams, but the water temps have also been dropping. Two weeks ago we had mid 80 degree temps, Monday they were down to 72.
If the water temps go back up a little, I would think that casting cranks at wing dams should be a good producer.
Smallies and Bluegills seem to be everywhere right now. I don’t spend time fishing for them, but have been catching a lot of them anyway. Been catching both on cranks.

Although I know guys who are doing well catching Walleyes on wingdams using Willowcats. We’ve had guys calling asking if we have any extras we could do without. Unfortunately, the Bass fishing has been so good, we haven’t been out looking for Willowcats. Those same guys are catching Walleyes on cranks but the bite is much better on the live bait.
Bluegills, if you cant catch all the 7-8″ ones you want, you’re suffering from bad juju… It’s been that good. Snags with current and wingdams are solid places to look now.
If everything stays the same, the good Bass fishing we’re seeing now should be fantastic in 2 weeks. Topwater’s a hot bite right now. Smallies are killing spooks, pop-r’s & chug bugs.
You shouldn’t have a hard time at all finding something to stretch your line and put a bend in your rod.

September 20, 2011 at 11:15 am #996006The extended forecast for this weekend weather looks great! Has any aspect regarding fishing conditions changed since you first emailed ten days ago? We will be out on the water this Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon. If you had a choice which area would you concentrate on first? The main channel wing dams, side channel snags or the backwaters and lily pads? We will be staying in Brownsville and have not fished the river in years. Are there any specific areas you can recommend? Any information you provide is appreciated, thanks. I’m curious to see what you guys recommend verses what Bob at Tri-State recommends. If any of you guys plan on fishing this weekend please give a shout and I’ll buy you a beer or coffee. Thanks again.
September 20, 2011 at 11:32 am #996011The gills and smallies are on fire. You will find them on the wing dams.
The crappies should be hangin’ on wood near or in deep water close to current.Jig with crawlers and minnows would be my bait of choice.
Some of the back water lakes are starting to load up with Pike. Spinners, swim jigs, or spoons should produce.

At a quick glance the river stage is still in perfect shape.
5ft for the river stage on Pool 8
The flow is at 20.000
And the water temp is hovering around 63 degreesYou should be hitting pool 8 at it’s finest for the fall bite
September 22, 2011 at 12:34 pm #996552Thanks for all the information it is appreciated. We’ll be out on the river tomorrow morning, Sat and Sun somewhere between the dam and Brownsville. Hope to see you out there. We’ll be in red 14′ aluminum boat with a white 30HP Johnson. If you see us please introduce yourself so I can thank you properly (cold beer) in person.
