After running into a pretty consistent pattern out on Pool 4 just off of Pepin for bass last weekend, I’ll be hitting her hard again this weekend. My question is are there any hazards in the Wisconsin channel to look out for running up from Bay City to around the Goose Lake/Sawmill Slough area? I have a 14′ V-hull with a 15 hp johnson. I have heard Katherine Pass can be a trouble spot…any help?
    Thanks

I was in that area (Goose Lake) a couple weeks ago.

We dodged a few “V’s” forming on the surface…although the ones we saw should be out of the water by now.

I’m no expert on the WI back channel, but it’s my opinion that running that area hard…sooner or later she’s going to take her toll on you.

Several dead heads to be had…running Katrina can be interesting if you are not familiar with it in low flow…..above goose a mile or so it the high lines….stay tight to shore of the MN side then hard right to the docks once you pass…I personally would trying to run the high lines now with the stage down to 3.2 ft. Once she hits 4 ft. I give in and take the safe route.

    Hey Erick!
Don’t know what the water level is now, but I think it’s been 3 weeks since I’ve been there and the back channel was fine. Just make sure you follow the channel, hug the docks before the power lines, then, run about 2/3 to the west on full plane. Like I said, It’s been 3 weeks. I run a 1850 Crestliner Fishhawk and had no prob.

Last Sat., I had 1.5 FOW on top of the bar-I’ll run it in my jonboat-but that is about it. Soon will be run at your own risk!
