Took a half day tomorrow gonna head out in the PM… plan on scouring the pool from the airport to the lake. Wondering how its been lately….clarity, temp, etc. I was able to find a few good fish hangouts a couple weeks ago and sure hope to repeat.

Made it as far as the landing at Lions levee yesterday but never did get a chance to get the boat wet. The landing looked nice. Most of the island was above water.

Got out yesterday for a while, first time in a long time! The clarity is poor right now. Muddy and lots of weeds and junk in the water. Level is close to normal pool, flow a little brisk but not crazy. I fished from down on the power line up to the railroad bridge. Only caught one Walleye, trolling in 11 feet of water over sand. About 24 inches and fat for this time of year. Also caught some Sheephead along the rip rap and a bunch of Smallies. The Smallmouth down there are starting to get some size to them. Next time I’m taking the fly rods and leaving the Walleye stuff home

Launched at 494. The dock isn’t in. If you use the left hand ramp there’s nowhere to put the boat, at least on the right hand side you can beach it on the sand. The cement divider is all the way out of the water now.

    Good luck Jason!

Was out yesterday and got 6 Eye’s. Biggest was a nice thick 26.5 that was in about 3 feet of water. Also caught 2 pike, 2 crappies and some smallies. 2 of the smallies went 18 inches.

Most of the fish were caught on Jig/Gulp but a few were caught on cranks.

Did this last week. Had a low 20’s eye hanging on the top hooks. Was hand landing it as I forgot the net at the cabin. Sure pays to have a decent set of wire cutters on board. A little on boat surger and we were back fishing it 10 minutes.

I heard a little blood in the water can really get those fish turned on. Ouch.

Those sauger are the ones I watch out for. Haul them in the boat and they play possum until you try grabbing a hold of them. Then they got nuts.

Did get out for the afternoon. We managed quite a smorgasboard of fishes but nothing to write home about. 5-6 walleyes, 1 sauger, 1 flathead, couple white bass, smallmouth and sheepies. No big eyes tonight, all smaller fish. Would’ve like to repeat my last time out but the sumos weren’t in the mood tonight. Talked to Gary at the 494 landing on the way home…sounded like he had similar results.

I spent my sunday morning and early afternoon pitching wingdams on pool 2. Cranks and crawlers produced a good number of 18-22 inch walleyes with 3 bigger than that. Two were over 26. The water is cleaning up nicely as it is dropping. The problem now is all the junk on the wingdams. I pulled in a large amount of line and other garbage. Can someone go out with some 80 lb braid and pull all that junk out please. The water temp is down to 76 degrees which is helping the fish revive faster. The two bigger fish were in a hurry to get back to their feeding areas after being released. The only bad thing about the lower water is the increase in big boat traffic.

Can’t recall ever seeing so many ocean liners out on P2 at the same time!! What a mess.

Similar results, but no big fish. Except for one channel cat that went 8 pounds or so. That fish put on some serious pull!

I can verify the amount of debris on the dams. I’d have to guess its been collecting there for almost 2 years now. Lots of line, plastic, netting, rope, and according to a recent post…somebody’s shorts.

14 days until general school starts. Colleges are all starting already and hunting starts up soon thereafter. The river should be free of most heavy traffic within the next two weeks The best P2 fishing is right around the corner and then up to the big freeze!

No one has claimed the shorts… they are still available Sounds like some decent action… keep up the good work everyone!

Nick and I were out yesterday afternoon/evening. It was pretty slow until it got towards sundown. Then Nick caught 3 eyes on the hot crank, 2 over 20″ and one that went 26.75″
I filmed while netting (I am an awesome netman) the last one for grins. When I figure out how to get it on here I’ll post it. Thanks for taking me out Nick!

The best/easiest way to share video is load it up on Youtube and then post a link to the video here.

I better let Nick divulge that if he wants to. It is a color pattern and crank style that a lot of people use and has worked well in the past…… Or! Maybe I SHAD say nothing. I would not like to get a bad RAP. My face would be RED! The words are stuck in my CRAW. I am feeling a bit disJOINTED.

Thanks Jon! I need to get going on the Youtube stuff if I am going to post videos.

Quick Hula Popper story: We are way up in Canada years ago. My Uncle who doesn’t fish is casting a hula popper and just reeling it straight in in a depth of about 20+ fow.
I told him that won’t work and he should be jigging on the bottom. The words aren’t hardly out of my mouth when a 12 lb northern smacks the hula popper and he promptly lands it.

Does dis-jointed mean jointed on not jointed?

I’m guessing jointed. The JSR-5 or 7 in craw with the chatruese belly is one of my alltime favs. It really stings when I get one stuck to a pair of somebody’s shorts jammed into a wingie.

Sept. is just right around the corner. Hope we get some rain like we did last year a that time. Should make for some decent fall fishing again.

Water really has dropped. Seems like it is down 1 1/2 feet from last week. Went out today for a few hours and only managed 2 eye’s. the smallies and Whites kept it interesting. Also landed what looks to have be someones Blue boat strap must have been 15 feet long.

Since the Boy and the neighbor kid have a goal of catching a Carp this summer looks like the next trip will be for them. Has been 30 years since I have targeted those so wish me luck. I think I will just head to the dam and through out a crawler and see what happens. I may have to sneak my Walleye rod along just in case.

If you are targeting carp, try using oatmeal for bait. It works very well.

Was able to get out for a while this afternoon. Think its been 3 weeks or longer since my last trip out. Started out on some wingdams and shoreline trolling runs looking for walleyes. This was pretty slow but not a big surprise for this time of year. Did find a half way decent sauger bite trolling some dunes on the edge of the main channel in 10 to 13′ of water. Managed a fish or 2 each pass. Ended the day back on the wingdams looking for walleyes. Found a nice school of fish holding deep on the second dam we stopped at. Nice mix of fish on it with a 25 and 26.5″ being the biggest. Most hit H2O jigs and crawlers. Caught a few on crank baits to.

The flow was still moving pretty good for this time of year. Water temps are still dropping with 74 being the norm today. Starting to get that itch for fall fishing now.

I thought there might be a couple bigger fish in there Mike. I swung through there one time last night and was coming back to “extract” them when I ran into you guys. I did manage a couple smaller fish up on the corner after I saw you.

I think there are bigger ones in there than what we got a hold of. Missed a lot of fish on that spot.
