We spent the weekend fishing the daylight hours on pool 4. Why anyone wants to fish during the day is beyond me…but that’s not the topic if my sunburn…er..post.

I spoke with quite a few people over the weekend that were searching for the MN State fish and only talked to two folks that had success. On fella at the resort hooked a 10 incher down by the head of the lake and the other guy Guide Mary Hahn.

Marty said “I don’t care for the high water, but it’s been good to me this year”.

Now I will say that the guys that I spoke with were mostly from out of the area and don’t get to float their boat on the river as much as Marty. That could slant the catch rate I’m sure.

Anyone else pick up some fish over the weekend?

I know it was Eric’s Anderson’s birthday, but not everyone had a hang over…I don’t think.

I wondered what you were doing out in the daylight when I buzzed you and your FW in the backchannel!
Fishing was VERY good, with 6 kept for the hot grease release. Nothing wrong with high water, they just aren’t in the usual “time of the year” spots when the current is not the usual.

Seems “hotspots” sometimes attract more fisherman than fish when the conditions are not right!

Good to see you out there my friend!

I thought that was you Doc! Thanks for not stopping!

So your saying I shouldn’t be sending everyone up to the dam?

maybe for catfish and freshwater grouper—I mean drum.

Nothing like a good freshwater grouper sandwich with mom’s homemade tarter sauce——-now, that is Iowan!!!

Way to go Doc, can’t quite understand what scares people so much about high water???? Were you trolling or jigging??

Brian, I love a good Iowa joke. Just haven’t heard any for a while.
    How’s Sean doing?

    Hairjig,

I was by the high lines in the back channel when he buzzed me.

I’m going to bet he was in the lake because the river beat him.

It was not a b-day BK it is a holiday to many. Plan to try getting up there this weekend to the north end. Getting sick of the lake and the waves she brings!

Yes, I should have stopped, but was pressed for time and had not fished for a week—-so, was squeezing out every second I could. Dragging jigs at the head of the lake in 3-6 FOW-bite was VERY good and will only get better! And yes BK, I did catch one catfish-pretty 3lber, those channels are some of the prettiest fish out there with their spots-
