The walleye bite was pretty decent on pool 2 this morning. Think Joel and I managed about 20 walleyes and saugers by noon. Most came trolling crank baits in areas out of the main river flow. Trolling mud breaks in these areas far out produced trolling the typical rock areas I like to focus on. Red or Brown craw where the hot colors for the morning.

You did WAY better than we did Mike! Gary and I didn’t get on the water until about 9:30. We found a big White Bass and Gary caught a Smallie that was over 16 inches long on a Moxie, very nice for Pool 2. We never found a Walleye. After 11AM the wind was pretty stiff.

We launched at 494. The water is still above the ramps but no problem getting the boat off and on.

Yea 494 wasnt to bad but there is still no dock in. Watched some guys launch there boat off the cement ramp to the dock. One tire on it the other off. Then he couldnt figure when his motor would not trim all the way down. It kept hitting the cement ramp. Its a little surprising that there is not a pile of trailer axles sitting down there from getting hooked on that cement. Im sure that cement ramp has eaten its share of props this spring.

I concur Mike. I’ve watched 4 or 5 boats bounce thier lower unit off the concrete this year. Luckily I do most of my fishing from shore. Keep that trim up guys!

Thanks for the trip Mike! I think the main thing is to to forget about the calender and fish the flow. The fish are not where they would typically be this time of the year. There is still to much current on those wingdams except way back in the series or close to shore. And hairjigs have picked up a few nice fish for me lately too.

I chewed up my prop on that ramp a few weeks ago, not going back..

Fishing was ok for us this morning. We didn’t troll….fish were eating leeches on jigs. Sun baked us off the river by noon. Water temp was 82F. Another snake thought about coming in the boat again…a bullsnake this time…but I saw him coming.

Yep. After talking to a guy that was throwing a shallow running stick bait on the rip rap shore line and telling us he had caught some saugers doing so. Gives you a idea how close to shore some of these fish can be.

Took a chuck out of my prop a Lions a few weeks ago. $10 is cheap for a launch at one of the local marinas.
