First Serious Shorefishing Attempt

Over the last 5 years or so I have been all over Pools 2, 3, and 4 in boats. This year I am boatless. MikeW has got me out a few times and I have some other offers from kind souls. Anyway, I really wanted to fish today; but had no boat to hop into. So I said the heck with it and went to a spot I thought might be good and caught these three walleyes. The two smaller ones on hairjigs and the biggest on a white Moxie. And I had the shoreline and the spot all to myself! Shorefishing is not so bad.

I should add that the fish in my moniker was caught shorefishing just below Everet’s a couple of years ago. That was not a serious attempt; but yielded a nice result.

Nice fish Joel. With all the spots we fish where we are pitching jigs and crank baits at shorelines Im not surprised you are catching them from shore.

I think that in high flow situation the shore is the ticket if its not to high, up north of you we have little structure in the river to dirvert the current creating a seam. The best seems we get are the back flow right along shore, after a rain storm keying in on samll creeks and culvert points of entry to the main river have been awsome to. Congrats on your shore eyes!!

I agree guys. This year shorefishing potentially could be good. What has held me back before is being able to access a high percentage spot that isn’t being fished by a half dozen people and having to walk a mile to get to it. Yesterday I thought of a place that was about a 200 yard walk from the car and it is a spot that we have clobbered them from the boat. The important part about having the spot to myself is that I can’t sweep jigs if I got a bunch of bait fishers around me. So yesterday worked out perfectly spot wise.

Shorefishing can be pretty darn good on the river. I fish from shore about 90% of the time and do fairly well. Spring and fall shorefishing are certainly the best for walleye. In the summer I just switch to catfish. This has worked well for me. This year I have 6 fish over 25 and they are all from shore. That’s not too bad considering it has been an extremely slow year in my opinion. Hopefully, this fall is better than the spring.
