If one were to catch a potential state record walleye in pool 2, what would one do? Do u have to release it right away or can u keep it in livewell and call dnr or someone to come out and verify and then release. Prob wont ever have to deal with this but it would be nice to know just in case

A state record could not be certified from pool 2 as you have to immediately release all walleyes caught.
July 7, 2011 at 4:29 pm #978968We were just talking about that last week while fishing P2.
We concluded that nobody will probably ever have to worry about it because pool 2 probably can’t produce an 18 lb walleye.dd
July 7, 2011 at 4:30 pm #978969Holst, ya beat me to it!
In all honesty, and this is no knock to the stretch of river – I don’t believe there’s a state record walleye in Pool-2. While Pool-2’s consistency to kick out ‘big’ fish is amazing – I’m not sure she can compete with Pool-4 or other trophy waters.
Just my opinion I guess.
GAH- and DD beat me to the Record part – I better brush up on my typing skills!
July 7, 2011 at 4:33 pm #978970Yeah ill never put any game fish in the livewell. Was just wondering if there was exceptions for state record fish to get them weighed and verified on the water. thanks pete

I thought all records were killed for DNR study? No?
That’s my understanding. The ‘carcass’ has to be identified by the DNR making a pool 2 state record an impossibility.
July 7, 2011 at 4:45 pm #978981I don’t think Pool 4 could do it either. I think it could come close; but the state records have come out of a an area where the fish have big oily baitfish to eat and can live over 20 years. Pool 4 has the big oily baitfish part; but I believe the fish don’t have the longevity.

July 7, 2011 at 4:46 pm #978982Could you keep the fish, have it certified and just pay the fine or whatever? I suppose there is some stipulation saying that the fish has to be legally caught. Nevermind.

Its just like catching a state record out of season on any body of water. Back it goes.
I think pool 2 could kick out a walleye that could top the state record. It would be a freak of a fish. 14 to 15#s is a real possibility at the right time of year. That getting pretty close to the record. Dont think Ill hold my breath waiting for a record but it could happen.
July 7, 2011 at 5:46 pm #979014That 32.5 in the spring would be pushing the 14 to 15# range. Now get one in the spring 1.5″s longer and you might be pushing a state record. 32.5 is a pretty good personal best. Think that is also one of the longest I have heard of coming out of pool 2.
July 7, 2011 at 6:07 pm #979021Imagine this fish at 30+ inches and full of eggs:
That fish was VERY heavy and was caught in the fall. I think Pool 2 might have a couple of monsters lurking around somewhere. If you really want to find one of them, I’d highly recommend fishing with Mike and not with me

July 12, 2011 at 2:17 am #979933wow looks like there is no pic of that 32″+ who would have guessed it…
July 13, 2011 at 3:30 pm #980440I am on the same wagon with most of you. I do not believe this fish would show up in P2. I honestly believe there are quite a few in there that go over 32 but even then doubt it has a shot but maybe???? A 15-16 lb fish is the top end of what I believe P2 can produce. I hope someone could prove me wrong one day.
July 15, 2011 at 7:37 pm #981224I have the pic on my cell phone. I have no idea how to get it from my phone to my computer which is currently really slow and annoying.
