I use the Dubuque rig every chance I get. And I have had a lot of success in the last few years. There are some obvious pluses and some minuses as well. This spring I vertically fished them in march and april with a ring worm and 3/8 jig on the drop and a floating jig with a minnow. I like to use 8lb mono for the drop and 8-10lb power pro for the long line. And I usually do 18″ Drop and 36″ long. This works well and doesn’t get tangled to often.
My other use this year was on lake pepin we were trolling at 1.0 to 1.2. And a 3/8 jib did just fine you could feel it bump bump bump. And that was in 15 to 18FOW. Again ring worm or gulp on the drop with crawlers on the long line.
My best day using a Dubuque was last fall. Down in Alma we got in a back eddy by the damn and casted the rig and worked it back to the boat and caught over a 100 walleyes and saugers over 3 days. Again it was rigged the same way as above. Other than these presentations i do not see it working. Good Luck!
