P2-P3 report

It has been slow coming this year but Cranks were by far the best option this weekend now. Fished P2 and 3 over the weekend and had no problem getting them to eat. 5-9 fow has been best and they are not afraid of fast water!!! Lots of small with a few better ones. 27″ was the biggest and was sitting right on the shore bank that was eroted out by about the quickest current out there. #5 and #7 flicker worked just fine. 7’s were pretty good on P2 but #5s were great on P3. And dont be afraid to hit the gas a little to get moving upstream. They dont mind! Even caught a few going downstrea thats always good news

If your out in the next week or so stay close to those areas that have been holding the fish and bait. They went way back this year and are just starting to leak into the main channel again. Find some kind of cover Rocks, Wood,or eroted shorelines that are getting current and near these slower warmer areas and you should be able to get some fish! They were stacked up pretty good on a few seams also but the faster water had the more active fish this weekend!

We should start seeing lots of changes here in the next couple weeks. Plastics have been the go to till now for me but as this crank bait bite sets up usually a good hair jig bite comes with it so dont be afraid to put down the crank baits if you believe fish are on that spot as the water slows!! Good luck out there guys

I hear ya!! Thats two years in a row that I missed that trip. We have another little one the way now so limited again to my out of town trips. I traded the sturgeon trip so I could make the musky run again this fall up north. We will be back though!! The wife really wants to go back in the next year or two!

I’m sure the first outing will be spent getting all the kinks out but we all know some fishing will get done. I’ll definitely report back.

Was able to sneak out for a few hours yesterday afternoon. The bite was pretty decent. Found all of our fish in the back waters trolling and casting cranks. Ended up with around 20 walleyes and saugers, a bunch of smallmouth and even a few pike. A couple of 27″ers where our big eyes of the evening other than that their sizes where all over the place.

Launched at 494. The dock is not in and most of the ramp is still under water. If you are launching by yourself plan on getting wet. When loading the boat we even had the front tires of the truck in the water.

Good Luck Jason, I might bump into you at some point tomorrow!

Work is holding me hostage. No fishing until next week. Let us all know how the weekend goes, please.

I spent both days this weekend back out there on the river. Saturday was a crazy day!! Crank baits were still great and fish are eating live bait rigs pretty good to. We spent most the day Saturday on P2 and Sunday we were able to get a couple hours in on P3 before the storms drove us off the water.

The water has changed a bit since last weekend and some spots really slowed down on the main channel while others still have good water and tight seams on them? That water is dropping quick but the flow just doesnt seem to be as fast as it usually would with the levels. Lots of areas are putting out fish and if I had any advise it would be to really work that spot on the spot right now. With the changes in the water I started the weekend with the run and gun just to locate a few fish. Once we found them we came back and tried to really pin down that spot on the spot. These big girls are in there but you have to find that sunken tree, root wad or small unique crops of rocks that is around these groups of fish. Those big ones are tighter to cover than I have ever seen so dont be afraid to loose a bait or two because you will get rewarded!!! Crank baits are still your best bet IMO but fish are showing up on hair and live bait too. Those at times are the best way to reach the specific spot you are targeting but when you can contact them with a crank bait thats the best bet right now IMO. Good luck and I will attach a couple pictures here once I get them loaded up on the computer.

Thats funny that you noticed! I honestly was leaving it back till I started running cranks here. I dont mind hand landing them till there is a few trebble hooks involved I broke that net curse I had last year so dont mind dragging it with me anymore now.

Me and a buddy managed 3 eyes in a backchannel in about 4-8 FOW with 1 fish at 28 inches just south of the pub in pool 2. We were jigging/dragging a jig n minnow.
