Don’t raise your eyebrows when you see me post a fishing report because I’m a converted bass fisherman going for walleyes. I went to Lynxville this morning and as I was pulling in two guys were leaving. They said they hadn’t gotten a bite and were headed for Guttenburg. This was about 9:30. I headed back north fished at Victory lost one fish, went up to the Genoa Dam and talked to one guy that said it was a lot better today than earlier he at least was catching one once in a while. I fished that wing dam and then went up to the dam and caught a 20″ walleye. I saw one other fish caught and left about 3. I was using a red/white/blue hair jig tipped with a minnow and caught the fish on the trailer hook. I tried a one eye, a black hair jig, a red ring worm with white tail, and an orange jig similar to a sonar but not a sonar. Take it for what it’s worth. Man that one was fun to catch. Oh, water is fairly clean and almost no debris at Genoa, there was some debris at Lynxville.

Went back to Genoa today and caught 2 saugers and a cat. (Snagged the cat didn’t want him anyway) There were more fish being caught but nothing to get excited about. I was using a jig and minnow caught one on red/white/blue and one on chartreuse.
March 17, 2004 at 12:31 am #297040With our first bragging tourney coming up this weekend,(Saturday), at Tuna’s Bar in Genoa I’m gonna be a lot less detailed than usual. All I think I need to say is ditch the minnow. Your using okay colors , but when you take a fish that is already barely making it to the stinger and lengthen the lure with the minnow now the fish bites the same distance back and will miss the stinger completely. Only one fish all day today actually made it up to the main hook. All the others just barely caught the stinger in the corner of the mouth. You shouldn’t feel bad about not catching many fish. The fishing is very tough right now, because the numbers aren’t spread across the whole basin yet. A person could easily fish an area that is normally productive by now for five hours and not get a bite. There are a few areas out of the way,(certainly not what I would call community holes), that are productive though.
March 17, 2004 at 4:23 pm #297206I just want to say I’ve been spending the last few hours reading the tips on this site and I’m appreciative of all the guys out there helping us. I’m going to be a listener and reader for a long time. Thanks and Good Fishing.
March 19, 2004 at 11:09 pm #297530The tourney tommorrow has been cancelled. In the last few days the fishing has really come on. It is actually almost in an April mode. Tuesday a bunch of nice fish were caught, but out of the main spots and Wednesday fish were all over. The 1999, and 2001 year class is extremely evident right now. Don’t be supprised if you catch more keepers than unders. I don’t think we got a single fish deeper than 24′. Nice groups from 15.5-17 inches and finally a large steady group from 3 to 6 #s. Nearly everyone was catching fish. Both hair and plastic both days
without meat Tuesday and Wednesday. I was at Red Wing yesterday, but friends said bothe meat and no meat were working. Please put the females with eggs back. You can’t miss the bulging stomachs.March 19, 2004 at 11:53 pm #297532Tom just called me back and verified that tommorrow is cancelled and they will start next week

March 22, 2004 at 8:16 pm #297816Fished Genoa Friday morning from first light to about 8 am. Second pitch of a ring worm had a 16 inch male. After a half hour jigged along long wall in twenty feet of water. Caught a 17 inch sauger andd then another 15 inch walleye within about 10 minutes of each other. THen I got a terrible fever with the flue and ultimatley had to leave the river!! Dadgumit!!
March 23, 2004 at 1:10 am #297851Bob it sure felt good to be back in the boat again it was my first trip to Genoa and I hope I can make it back up there again in the next couple of weeks.
March 25, 2004 at 1:22 am #298135Even Rookies have their day. I was at Genoa actually I feel like I’ve been living in my boat lately, which ain’t bad. Anyway one day at Genoa we couldn’t catch a fish one keeper size sauger all day while we watched these three guys pull in fish left and right. Discouraging!!! Today I actually caught my limit 15, 16, 17, and 18 inch walleyes and two saugers. I guess even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while. They are biting anyway, everybody seemed to be getting fish. I’m still learning, I haven’t dumped the minnows yet
