Not a bad start to the summer season on pool 2. Just over 27″s and nice and thick. White Moxie pitched to a current break. After fishing sturgeon the last 2 weekends thought I had a small white bass on.

Almost looks like it hasn’t spawned yet. What do you think, Mike?

    Nice fish!

Figured she would of been much fatter if she was still packing eggs. Just one of those genetically thick fish I think. She didnt seem real hollow like a spawned out fish either.

We launched at Lions Levee. It good to go if you have water proof boots. Launching at Willies is most likely a much better option.

You keep following that barge Czech and it should lead you right to her. Lots of barges getting pushed around yesterday. Looks like they are getting ready for a heavy season.

    Nice fish Mike!!

You did better then me and my buddy did yesterday out there. We managed a few small males but pounded the smallies, we landed prolly 25 smallies in an hour or so, biggest being a chunky 18 1/2.
We launched at mississippi pub they charge 15 bucks to launch but said we were nuts for wanting to go out fishing in the not so nice may 1 weather and were very nice and let us launch for free.

Way to go on the smallmouth. Last year we caught a lot of smallmouth mixed right in with the walleyes.

I am pretty sure that fish was not a pre spawn fish but sometimes wonder if some if these big females will hold and absorb those eggs on the right year with bad conditions like we have seen. Very nice fish anyways!! I had not seen any big ones in a while and thought that thing was all of 28 at 1st site.

Got out tonight and did some scouting and driving around but not much fishing. 494 is getting close … but still closed. Spring lake launch…not so close. I launched there quite a bit last year and it looks like a lot of work will be needed to get that landing going this year.

That Spring Lake landing looks rougher than it usually is. You heading back down this weekend Jason? Thinking I may have to sneak in a crappie trip while waiting for temp to warm up or maybe a white bass trip on the upper croix.

Nice Speck! See Mike…you can even do your sumo crappie fishing on P2. Now whether or not you want to make a crappie sandwich out of those crappies is another question.
