Mark Bruzek and I hit the river today with high expectations and little else. We haven’t been on the river in 4 weeks, so with the landings finally opening up. It was time.

We never really found much of the fish we were looking for. We did see a 27″ eye caught. Mark Bruzek and I caught 12-18 dink saugers (10″-12″), a couple white bass and a 16″ walleye which came home with me for a hot grease release.

Dubuque rigs and 3-Way rigs were the go to tools today. No one color was better than the other on the stick baits. They all produced the same amount of fish action.

On a side note. I got to use Mark’s I-Pilot for the first time today. That is the sweetest tool and the greatest boat control tool since the trolling motor was first introduced. Man that tool is going to make my life easier and less stressful.

We were out 3-waying, hand lining and trolling. Biggest fish for us on the day was a 20″ eye with a handful of eye’s and saugers between 16-19″ and a few dinks. Not exactly what we were after for the day but thats fishing. I do know a HOG was caught but no info on that will be released for at least a few days Other than the secret HOG the only other big fish I heard of were pushing the 24″ mark. Best colors of the day were fire craw jointed and hot steel for the stick bait

The hog at the local bar doesn’t count. you don’t want to have your friends see you on her anyway.

Bite was pretty slow for us with just a few fish over 20″ coming to the boat.

Nice to be back home on Pool 4 though regardless, and the bite should pick up from here on out.

Here is a picture of our best fish on the day, a big male measuring out just under 25″.

Nice wally justin! It was slow indeed. The walleyes seemed spawned out. Or half out. First time ever not catching a sauger too 3 waying was the ticket. I even tried trolling with cranks on the lock side and managed a few small waleyes and a 21″ wally. Yes, weird I give it 2 weeks and it should be hot again.
