I was on the river yesterday and saw people literally “ripping” these things through the water. Of course when you rip 2 treble hooks through the water you are guaranteed to snag fish. These people where snagging the crap out of these fish and I truly believe that if they want fish that bad then get off the water and buy it from the stores! Now I know blade baits can be very productive when fished properly and I use them myself, but these people were TRYING to snag these fish and I hope the DNR does something about this problem that happens every year!

If you really want something done, get real about it and report them to the DNR. Game laws are in place to deal with snaggers. Call the DNR, give the boat number and report what you see-let them explain the rest for their actions. MN and WI both have tip lines.
Bladebaits work great, but anything ripped with a treble can snag.April 21, 2011 at 7:35 pm #959476Mississippi? and where? The DNR does write tickets if they catch people keeping snagged fish!!

Here is the district 18 CO phone list. I’ve got these in my phone. If I see violators, I can call the CO with descriptions, boat/auto lic number, etc. This is all our resource and it’s up to all of us to protect it.District 18

April 21, 2011 at 7:45 pm #959483I did call the DNR and I sure hope something was done. Do you think that snagging a pregnant fish in the belly and ripping it up hurts the fish? Of course it does and people need to realize that.
April 21, 2011 at 7:52 pm #959489where was this taking place? i know when the carp school up ive snagged alot of them and seen alot snagged
April 21, 2011 at 9:08 pm #959521Im on the fence either way, but I do feel I need to mention this. A few weeks ago I was 10 feet away from a guy ripping a blade bait that hooked into a whale. I was able to watch the fight like I was right in the boat. When they netted the walleye the whole blade bait was in its mouth. The walleye was 33 inches and weighed 13.5 lbs. I watched it all. With that being said, Im sure some get snagged, but this guy truly caught a walleye of a lifetime rippin blades and hooked it in the mouth.

I second that Normally you can tell if someone is intentionally snagging when “ripping” blades
April 21, 2011 at 10:27 pm #959555Pitching and vertically working blades is a blast, love that bite. Vertically jigging a blade using a four foot home run swing?……SLOPPY!
blufloydPosts: 698April 22, 2011 at 12:42 am #959585Yankee crankbaits? Never caught a legal fish with them. Plenty snagged though. Quit using them years ago.

MooPosts: 11April 22, 2011 at 1:55 pm #959696Jeez you wanna see a snag FEST head to the Menominee river. Shore fishermen just snag the he** out egg laidin Walleye. What makes it such a joke is your allowed only ONE FISH locals take thier 1 fish to the car come right back and go at it again. Watched it happen 2 nights in a row. The state of Wis. and Mich. could finance a state highway with the fines.. All in all caught 20 walleyes 3 took the bait in the mouth rest where snagged on thier back along with 4 suckers..
April 22, 2011 at 3:22 pm #959732A license plate number and a call to the tip line…along with the word that tickets are being handed out would slow that practice Moo.
