Where’s everyone headed for walleye opener this year? With the new addition to the family I decided to stay close to home to celebrate Mothers day with wife and kids. I’ll be fishing Tonka.

I will probably be on Tonka too if I get out much, possibly some other area lakes, good luck!

Didn’t realize you lived so close Dustin. Let me know if you want to compare notes for fishing Tonka toast

That sounds like a fun day of fishing right there!

I’ll be heading up to God’s Country, Namakan Lake as usual. Hopefully be able to get the docks in at my buddies cabin. Friday we’ll try to get some of those slab crappies and chase Walleye’s around on Saturday. Last year was fun but fricken cold!! Woke up to the dock and boat covered in snow Saturday morning. I hope this year is on the warmer side of things, but either way, we’ll be fishing!!

    What’s a <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>walleye opener?

It’s a joyous occasion celebrating the most wonderful fish, you should look into it now that you have that Walleye Boat. Walleye taste WAY better than Spam too…

As for me I’ll be at the cabin on Belle Taine, and choosing one of the many surrounding lakes to fish that weekend.

My dad puts his boat in once and takes it out once per season. I’ll be on the Whitefish Chain. Its annoying, but not worse than fishing from shore…

Not sure. 14yr old has softball tourney starting at 8am, two dance recitals later in the day for younger ones.

Probably hit up the river as usual midnight, do the kid thing during day, hopefully have some fresh fish for lunch then shoot up to Leech where my Dad will be with some fellas after the first recital. Seeing one is good enough ain’t it…..

I was up today. Ash River is wide open out past the narrows. I would be surprised if the ice doesn’t go out next week. Warm strong Southerly winds and the mid 60’s temps today really is doing the ice in.

    Good luck on the opener.

Awesome, good to know. My only concern is the water level. Hopefully it is high enough we can get the docks off the sand bar where they are being stored. If not, no big deal, but it sure is fun putting the cane poles out off the end of the dock while sitting around the camp fire! peace

Not sure. Living in the heart of walleye country…..I may go lake trout fishing. Or hit a few less popular/populated lakes. My boys are irritating enough, it’s a Mother’s Day gift for me to take them away for the weekend.

Fishing Mille Lacs from shore at midnight. Then probably do some bass fishing at Platte/Sullivan. Rinse and repeat until the night ban starts.
