Anyone have any experience in ice fishing walleyes in Iowa? My dad and I had planned to head up to lake poygan on Friday and fish through Sunday. After hearing the bite is pretty slow and there is a tournament there this weekend I’m looking for different options. I live in the eastern most part of Iowa, would like to catch some eyes through the ice. Hoping to keep the drive around 4 hours at most. Any help is appreciated.

Clear Lake in Cerro Gordo county holds Walleye

I haven’t been out there yet this winter, nor have I heard any reports but if your willing to put in the time and do some searching you should have some luck

Farmers beach and HyVee reefs are good places to start

The Iowa DNR post their weekly fishing report today, I would check that out. I have not fished Clear Lake for several years, but the reports I am getting are yellow bass and some crappie in the little lake. The little lake is loaded with permanent fish houses I am told, so will likely be way too much activity this weekend.

I would consider heading to the Okoboji area, pan fish appear to be hitting and Spirit has some good walleye and perch fishing, not sure how they are doing lately.

Thanks for the info guys! I think I’m just going to fish as I usually do this weekend and maybe plan a trip to LOW one of my next weekends off.

Rahtbun, Redrock. Further west: Brushy Creek, Twin Lakes, Storm Lake, Big Wall and Blackhawk; and the upper Iowa great lakes of course(Est/West Okoboji, Spirit)
What part of the “eastern most” part of Iowa are you in? If anywhere near the Quad Cities, I may have a PM idea for you as well.
