Hey folks we have a son in Denver and we’re trying to get him setup to ice fish out there. Any suggestions on a walleye/lake trout rod ? Thanks Glenn

For average size lakers, I think something like the TUCR Commander would work well as a multi species stick. Plenty of other great rods out there, I am only suggesting the Commander because I’ve caught both species on one.

TUCR Commander is a great rod. I use it for walleyes and Im sure its great for small to medium-sized trout. Its also sensitive enough for when there are perch gong after your walleye spoon. If you were thinking there is a reasonable shot at a big lake trout, I would look for something heavier, just my opinion

I am planning on buying a Commander to add to my TUCR arsenal but until then I bought a Jason Mitchell Mack rod, which are designed for lakers and used it on Superior last season. It’s a little too much for walleye, not terribly sensitive but a nice cheap option for a laker rod at $40 if I remember correctly. Also comes in a spinning and baitcaster option which is nice.

A prefer a bait casting set up. I have a Thorne Bros. walley sweetheart in both medium and medium heavy set up. I have the old St. Croix Premiere ice rod in both M and MH as well as the current St. Croix Mojo Ice in M and MH as well.

I have just added an Elliot Ice Rod, Siscowet 44″ H in bait casting.
