I am looking for an ice rod for walleye with a real quick/light tip. I have been looking at Frabills and Jason Mitchell rods. Under about $50. Any suggestions. I want shorter for in my shelter. 27 and under. Thanks

How heavy of lures do you typically want to run?

I started with JM’s 26″ perch rod. Works well with 1/8oz lures and a light tip to detect bites. It’s my secondary now that I got a perch sweetheart from Thorne. Still a very useful and likeable rod. Don’t know Frabill’s so I can’t give a head to head comparison.

If heavier lures or snap jigging artificials then you might want to consider a heavier tip.

Look at Ugly Sticks ice rod series! I have one for fishing ultra light jigging raps and small spoons and I love it!. Also Fenwick makes a good rod with a light tip. The Ulgy Stick though have a light tip with a heavy back bone is perfect for walleye fish!

IMHO I think it is worth the money to buy the TUCR Precision Ice Rod. This thing is amazing, has a good tip with lots of feel, but also a good backbone for when you hook up into a decent one. Pair that with a good shimano ice reel at Cabela’s and you’ve got yourself a perfect setup.

Are you looking for a combo for $50 or just the rod? If you are looking for a good combo in that price range the Jason Mitchell is a good way to go. One perk of those combos is the reels have a push button collapsable handle for easier storage in a hard case. If you only want the rod maybe check out the new st croix mojo ice, st croix avid or premier. All of these rods are in your price range and any of them would be imho a good choice. Good luck
