We stopped at the cut foot souix yesterday to check out all the walleye penned up for egg stripping. Have seen them doing this for a few years but this is the first time we stopped. Pens where just packed full of large female walleyes. Think they said this was just the start of the run. Smaller males kept in other pens down stream. Plenty of coolers going with running water to them. The couple of photos you can see a few walleyes. My guess is they had 500 walleyes in each of the pens. Polarized glass worked wonders to see them all.

My grandparents have a cabin on the Woman Lake Chain, up near Longville. My grandpa has watched them strip the walleye before out of Woman Lake. I remember him calling me and saying, “we’re not very good fisherman,” after seeing all the large walleye in the pens.

I vist the hatchery in my area at least once every Spring as well. Kind of hard to see this old girl and all her battle wounds, but a nice 29″ fish to say the least.
