As the dry weather ensues in the Heartland, and having a doe tag filled, I took off the last couple nights pursuing my favorite predatory fish, the walleye. The interior rivers are low from the drought, and the sky’s are dusty from harvest, but the bite has been picking up. Lots of eaters and some decent fish being caught. Areas to target have been feeder creek mouths where bait fish are congregating. Weapon of choice has been a 1/16th oz bucktail with a super small fluke as a backer. Working it slow in shallow water and the walleye have been pouncing on it. I’ve been fishing after work and the nicer fish are coming right at and after dark. Gonna be hunting again this weekend, but if you have a pocket of jigs and a pole, get out there and give it a go. Dark and natural colors have been on my menu so far.

They were slam bang one after another in SD last weekend. Saw two different guys pull in what they said were 30″ fish. I was catching 24″ fish from 8 in the morning until I got bored at like 4:30. They were very shallow and hitting my swimbait after pulling it through some debris. When the lake was windy and the river was calm was when they seemed to come in the best.
