Walkable access

Never ice fished Mille Lacs before and would like to give it a try. I don’t have a snow mobile or 4-wheeler. Any suggestions on where to go out of where you don’t have to walk too far? Thanks!

Straight out from the bait shop in Garrison. Snow is packed straight out so its a very easy walk to pull the sled behind you. Fish will move in shallow in later afternoon, otherwise if you’re willing to hike out a bit further they’ll be there waiting for you all day.

Im planning on walking out of north garrison public access, staying friday overnight in my popup on west myr mar reef, and walking out to myr mar flats saturday. New to Mille lacs wondering how this plan sounds? Don’t mind walking, have a good pulling harness and in shape. Any tips anyone willing to share about the area id be grateful.

Any of the north end or east side accesses should be good, the first break was still holding fish last weekend. Alex I think that is a good plan, as long as you are comfortable and safe camping in the pop-up. I fished that same general area and gold and red rattlin flyers w/ minnow head worked well.

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up bailing on staying Friday night as I watched the low for the night keep dropping to -12 on the forecast. I do have winter camping experience and have stayed in the hub before but that didn’t sound like much fun. Was still -13 when I got to Phils @ 8am.. brr.

Was a slowish day, only ended up landing 4. To be fair I didn’t move much. 3 just a hair under 21 and a 18, all real fat and healthy. Lost a few at the hole, marked many more not interested.

    Thanks again.
