I am needing some advice on a walk in cooler setup. I have purchased a stand alone walk in freezer unit with a 3ph condensing unit. My plan was to use the evaporator and purchase a single phase condensing unit for a cooler not a freezer. Now I am being told that is not possible that the evaporator is to large for the 10x8x8 box that it is in. It was up and running at a local grocery store as a freezer when I bought it. I am not sure if the company is just trying to oversell me or doesnt want to do it. The complete condensing unit and evaporator they want $9300 not installed. I have called several companies and only got one to respond. I am using it to hang deer in during season and will have drinks and produce sometimes. Just looking for some opinions as I do not know what I need.

Check out the CoolBot system. They work good. All you need is a air conditioner and the coolbot control.

Call John at 320-468-6294 thats Britz Store Equipment. Tell him you got his number from Brian Hoffies.

Have the inside dimensions on hand when you call. Also he will need to know if you have 3 phase power or not. Also if you intend the compressor to sit indoors or outside.

Ask if he has a used unit that will work for you. If not he can price out new. Depending on your location he might even come install it for you.

I can refer you to others but I trust John a bit more.

    Where are you located?

I am located in Salem Illinois. I do not have 3ph available where cooler is located. The compressor will sit outside. I will have to get exact dimensions of the inside when I get home tonight before I call him. Thanks for the advice.

I see you are outside of St. Louis. Did you get the walk-in from one of the Schnucks auctions? Just trying to figure out the best guy down there to help you out.

BTW, welcome to In-Depth. How did you find us?

No I bought it locally from a closed Farm Fresh Store. I googled walk in cooler forum and yours popped up with someone else asking a question. I am kind of at a last resort. After purchasing the unit I poured a pad and cut a hole in my garage never dreamed purchasing a condensing unit for it would be so much trouble.

It’s not that hard, it’s just that everybody is trying to poke you. I can send you phone numbers of people to try for used compressors but you will be on your own for the install.

I have the resources to get it installed just out of my element on what exactly I need and cant get a straight answer. Just want to purchase the right thing as to not have trouble with it all the time and for it to work correctly. Done a lot of things just never worked with any type of cooler.

Call John, he will be able to correctly size it for you. Then send me a PM if he has a unit either new or used that will work for you. I’m roadtripping South before to long and could pick it up from John and meet you to save some shipping $.
