My friend, Ron, and I decided to relax a bit today by fishing down on the great Alma Fishing Float. We figured we could put together a couple of meals of perch, walleye, sauger, and/or northerns, while killing a day in the sun. Everything worked perfectly……except the fish didn’t know! I caught a nice 10″ perch almost immediately. A 13″ largemouth followed about 20 minutes later. We were getting gentle taps on almost every cast. But nothing else joined the lone perch on our stringer. The guys next to us caught fish much more regularly than we did. About half a dozen nice suckers were caught & released. And the shorter of the two fishermen added 8 perch to his basket. We gave up around noon, and ate dinner. Afterwards, we motored to the Wilcox Landing on the Minnesota side, just south of the Wabasha-Kellogg school. There, we landed about a dozen perch. But, none of these were even close to keepers, so they are still swimming. We stopped to visit our buddy, Bruce, who was waiting for us with a couple of cold beverages, and something like a burrito that he had created the night before. A little BS, and we were on our way home. Maybe next time!
