Vulture ice system?

Anyone out there have experience with the ice vulture alert system for tip ups? I had a run in at my lake house in northern WI on Saturday while fishing with my wife, 6, and 9 yr old boys. I received a $180 citation after the warden tripped my flag and it took us 19 minutes to tend to the flag. I’m not complaining, the rule states that you have to immediately tend to a line (he told me he gives a 5 minute time allowance to be standing by the flag). Didn’t take me long to realize I’m not going to be sitting at my window every minute to be watching my flags and at $180 per line (he could have fined me for every line, not just the one he tripped) it could get very expensive very quickly!! So, I invested in the vulture system for all 12 of my tip ups (myself, wife and two boys) which wasn’t a small chunk of change…just hoping they work as well as a couple people told me they do…

I had the Blue Tipz 2 seasons ago, range wasn’t very good, 45′ away and i sometimes would not get an alert on my phone. After it got wet it crapped out on me. I would not recommend those personally. A plus for these was the fact that you could pic your alert sound, I had thunderstruck by ACDC…. However it does look like they have been redesigned.

I just looked up the Ice Vulture System. 1 mile range radio frequency with a 5 week battery life… Please report back, i’d def be interested in these.

I bought them last year and have not had any issues with them going off.
I think they were upgraded last year.
But they do not have range any where near a mile.
sitting in a cabin away from lake I am guessing they would not work well.
I rarely use them over 200 yards

Why don’t you just go sit out there in a portable and fish? Seems like pretty bad etiquette to leave lines unattended anyways

    wardcst,
I wont need them to work 200 yds, none of my tip ups are that far from our lake house. I looked at the strike alerts but 200 yds was about their max range. All of my tip ups are set with 100 to 125 yds, nice thing about having good fishing out your front door ;-)

    Craig,

thanks for you opinion on my etiquette. Quick question…How is my sitting in my house looking out my window (on the lake) any different then me having my ice castle on the lake looking out that window? If you want to argue distance from said window that’s fine. Anyone fishing with a tip up out of shack can easily go a few minutes without looking out their window..playing a card game, eating some food, telling a story… Ironically my tip ups are usually further from my ice castle than they are from my bedroom window. How many people in sleeper shacks put out tip ups and leave them in during the night without alarms on them. How many people fish at night without lights or alarms on their tip ups?? Thanks for the judgemental comment though waytogo

He’s clearly trying to find a better way to attend to his lines…..sheesh

I have no experience with the Ice Vulture system, but agree that the Blue Tipz and Strike Sensors have limitations. Fresh batteries make a difference, as does a clear line of sight (including being indoors vs. outdoors)

Adubs please report back with their performance )

So far from using a buddies when I was out this year they seem to work good but never really pushed out the range past 50yrds or so?

I can not say enough positive things about the Vulture ice system. I bought 12 of them and was nervous about syncing them with the remote. Out of the box they were already synced with the remote from 1 to 6. So, I have two of each number and simply wrote on the transmitters the number they are. I didn’t test the range out past 125yds from my cabin so I can’t say much about how far they work. Being able to test them with the remote to see that they are working and within range is a great feature. I could stand in the cabin and hit #1 on the remote and watch both #1’s light up. I watched a flag pop and within 1-2 seconds the remote was beeping. I was also fortunate enough to hear the alarm go off at 3:05 am sunday and pulled my largest WI walleye through the ice! Very happy with this product!! The lights are bright, the magnets worked great even at -15 and its an incredibly easy system to set up and use.
