Not a big fan of the sleeper shack, would like a cabin even if it costs a few extra bucks. If we could walk out and get some pannies that would be great, shot at a couple Walters around sunset, cool-Tullies nearby also a nice bonus. Pike action, sure I’m easy. If the action is good I would probably leave a few steaks in the freezer or bourbon on the counter if that is your thing. This site never lets me down, somebody has the cabin—Thanks

Myself, wife, and BIL make an annual winter trip to ML and usually rent a sleeper. This trip we are doing something different. Renting a cabin from Red Door, it’s in the same ball park price of an “Ice castle”, but has so many more amenities, i.e. kitchen, shower, room to move around.

My thought is this, we won’t be stuck to fishing the same spot for a few days, and since we will be bringing our own house, etc., we can move if needed, and if we feel like getting off the lake, we can do that too. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, then we just stay in the cabin.

Will have to see how it works out.

Go on vrbo or airbnb find the cabin you want. Then you click the calender and book now.
No need to leave extras, you will already be paying a premium up front.

We’ve looked into doing something similar to get my wife and daughter to tag along on an ice fishing trip. Finding a spot is much more difficult than you’d think. Eventually as we add to the family I’d love to do this somewhere where we can just get on some crappies for our kids and nephew then heading to shore after dark. A wheelhouse just doesn’t cut it to rent and have my little one tearing things apart with other kids involved too. Mrs. Bucky likes the outdoors, but she also loves hot showers and not using a bucket as a restroom. Bearcat is right in that those listings are already making top dollar…I wouldn’t feel obligated to leave anything.

I’d advise against choosing Mille Lacs or URL for this, as there are times where the best fishing is well after dark on these bodies of water once they get busy and the water settles after ice-up. Last year when we were on Mille Lacs with 6 guys over 3 days in February…we landed I believe 4 fish total during daylight hours and probably around 30 between the hours of 9pm and 5am. Fishing all day and sleeping on shore would’ve effectively meant no fish for us.

Thanks Bucky, looking for something that is not one of the mega lakes, would like to get away from the zoo-Bear thanks for the help, think I can navigate the VRBO site, just looking for a reccomendation on a cabin where you can just drag your gear out and get a few fish.

We do it a few times a year, but always in the summer. Ely is a perfect area to look. And the ladies always like the shops. Plenty of great panfish lakes that has vrbo homes. I’m not sure if it’s seasonal or year round

Hi Tim, Check out Round lake by Randall on VRBO. Friends own the the cabin there. Been there once and looks like a nice clean place. I hear the panfish are good in the lake. I have to believe the northerns would be also. I don’t know about the walleyes. The lot is very level to the lake and would be an easy to drag your gear out.

RK-Clean place out at Round, looks like it would be great for bass in the summer. If you can pm me more info on the panfish, the DNR report does not look too good, sometimes those reports tell the story sometimes not so much. Thanks

You didn’t like the ely idea? Probably the best panfishing in the state from my experience . Besides Detroit lakes

Ely, Park Rapids, Detroit lakes, all great, thanks-I will be hiking out with an elderly dude and would like a place close to a good spot-asking too much? Maybe, worth a try though. Open water I see a spot on a map and I can just go there and fish it, Ice time no roads, foot of snow, slush,…tell me a specific property in Ely I’ll tell them you refered me, win for everyone.

Asking too much? Just got a good PM w/a referal
Beardly don’t you think if you know of something good you not only help me but you help the person renting the cabin? I bring nice green paper to the table, I’m not asking for something for nothing.

I think he’s trying to say is look up a lake or lakes find a cabin on it and click rent. I could pm you 50 different places but I’m thinking you could do the same in the same amount of time

Just wanted a referal, you might not want to give one, that’s fine, would much rather hear something good about a place than to just go somewhere that ‘looks good’. Why open up this query if you think its a waste of time? Now you are wasting your own time.

But time keeps flowing like a river (on & on)
To the sea, to the sea
    ’till it’s gone forever
    gone forever
    gone forevermore.

Yes, there are hundreds of rentals on the water and I’ve looked at half of them. What ones have YOU stayed at with decent fishing in front of the cabin or a decent walking distance from the cabin? Thanks

There’s 2 cabins which are open year round at Forest Lane Resort on Lake Vermilion.

They’re 2 bedroom cabins, full kitchen ect.

Plus only 2-3 miles from the Casino. I’m not a fan of the casinos in this state, but it’s something else to due.
