Yes, the rest of it (the 5.5%) stays how it is now with the LCCMR making recommendations to the legislature.

What happens if it doesn’t get amended? All lottery proceeds go to the general fund?

Yes, that is what would have happened. Now we are stuck with this for 25 years. Hope there is no malfeasance. I didnt like much of the wording, but I know many who voted for it had no idea what was all in it which is almost always the case. We will see how it works out.

I think so too. I talked to several people yesterday who voted yes on it even though they thought the wording was very confusing. I think most of us here are more well-versed in the outdoors than the common voter who probably have no clue about any underlying riders and provisions attached to it.

Yep, on top of this I heard my son voted against the sales tax for the jail, etc in Stearns county. I asked him if he realized that meant it would go on Property taxes instead and ONLY Stearns cty residents would be paying for it vs anyone from anywhere who spent money here? He said no.
orve4Posts: 499November 6, 2024 at 8:37 am #2297913^Darn, I was hoping the sales tax would NOT pass.
Leave that jail up to you locals, not me passing through adding cents onto my Scheels purchases on my way up North
November 6, 2024 at 8:40 am #2297916thanks bucky!!!!! you were adding extra cents to st cloud anyway through other various little tax increases. just like about every other bigger city!!
November 6, 2024 at 9:02 am #2297918…looks like I am going to have to start detouring 50 miles out of my way to avoid all these corrupt sales taxes, so that I can give my hard-earned money to corrupt oil companies instead!!

you should look at your reciepts a bit closer………….you’d be surprised how many of those reciepts have a “city tax”!
just sayin!!!!! and even in the little town of Cold Spring, its attached to property taxes!!!!!! even the school boards get some!!!

Yep, they are everywhere. The main problem with this is why didnt we get a vote on whether or not this jail, etc was even going to be built? We just got to vote on how to pay for it. That isnt right.

No doubt.
OG Net_ManPosts: 580November 6, 2024 at 9:28 am #2297933Lottery proceeds – With the wording that they used on the ballot I am not sure how any one would vote no to this. I would like to know how many actually marked no versus leaving blank.
Sales tax – I received a quote for a boat from a dealer in Bloomington recently. I normally do not look at sales tax amounts but on a larger purchase, holy crap. Sales tax was over 9%.

If it’s anything like Wright county, the county board of commissioners made the decision to build a new jail. Which also included a new justice building and a new administrative building.
But don’t worry, here’s a quote from the Stearns county board “Commissioners will be highly vested in this project over the next several years and will be vigilant to minimize cost and be fiscally conscious of spending taxpayer dollars. As the project moves forward, they will make decisions that will keep costs down.”
