VOTE!! If you havent already.

You can print a sample ballot for your area well in advance, and do all the research you want
Just did that. Looking it over, I was looking into the Natural Resource Trust Fund Renewal. A very right side minded customer last week was telling me to vote no on this. After reading it the money from the lottery would either go to that or get put back into the state general fund to be spent how they see fit. Well I’m kinda torn here, I wouldn’t mind the money going to clean water, however I have trust issues on both ends of this deal. Anyone have thoughts we can talk about without shutting this down.
StanleyPosts: 1108November 5, 2024 at 9:32 am #2297671So what would happen if you skip the local stuff and not vote for school board ect?

Those are just majority of votes cast. The only question that matters if you skip it is the lottery funds one because it’s a constitutional amendment, a blank is a “no” vote.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23371November 5, 2024 at 9:35 am #2297674Regarding that Lottery funding for Natural Resources is there are pieces in the bill that I dont particularly like. Like the appointed persons and the fact is if passed we are stuck with it for 25 years. I am leaning NO for these reasons and they can rework the bill and send it back for a vote later. If this passes we cannot do anything with it for 25 years which doesnt sit well with me.
November 5, 2024 at 9:38 am #2297675Election Day should be a National Holiday. It is in most other countries. Still should allow for early voting, but I find it ridiculous we dont consider it a Holiday.
I agree with that. Anyone know more about the DNR funding question on the ballot? To protect waters and parks and trails etc? I read right before I went to vote that if you left it blank it would be counted as a no. Then as I walked into the polling place, I heard of couple of old timers saying to vote no for it because it wasn’t actually better for helping our lands and waters. Anyone have any more insight on this?

CaptainMuskyPosts: 23371November 5, 2024 at 9:53 am #2297680We were talking the other day about bills containing things that no one has ever heard of. Well, I just heard on the radio there was a 2024 Omnibus bill that passed and it is now illegal to eat a nuisance beaver without a permit. WHAT? Not that I would eat one anyway, but why a bill or law for this? I have no problem with the permit part, but this just seems silly.

There were about 4 pages of solid discussion on it here: http://www.in-depthoutdoors.com/community/forums/topic/vote-minnesota-lottery-proceeds-for-the-outdoors/
At the end of the day it’s voluntary funds from the lottery, and while there’s quite a bit of BS in it, the lion’s share goes to awesome projects that benefit all outdoors focused Minnesotans. And a no vote funnels it into the General Fund, which has even more BS in it imo.

in Minnesota its a state law your employer needs to allow you to leave work for up to 2 hours in the morning to go vote and are required to pay you, on the day of the general election!!!!
of course there not going to tell you that.and contrary to what some say……your vote does count!!!!!
November 5, 2024 at 10:14 am #2297689I still vote but in reality it doesnt matter. MN will always vote for the same party no matter what. Working class will keep getting the short end of the stick no matter who is in office
Not necessarily this year. MN got placed into the Swing-state category not too long ago. And a group of Somali leaders endorsed all/most of the Red candidates over the weekend. Saying the Blues have left them behind to fail.

That’s why I write in a vote for Manbearpig.
basseyesPosts: 2569November 5, 2024 at 10:50 am #2297694Where we live in Isanti County the volunteers really do a great job and it’s a small community of rural people. Was in and out quickly. Probably the least amount of people we’ve seen voting. Wife went in a little earlier than I did and was smooth sailing. Tip of the cap to the volunteers! In a state where the presidential candidates are elected by roughly 10% of the counties, feel like my vote really doesn’t matter on national races. Voted for who I wanted to and was surprised they were even on the ballot. Would love to see a viable 3rd party option vs just two choices that don’t seem like much of a choice.
Thanks again to all the volunteers!
Thanks to all the individuals throughout our history who died, shed blood and fought for our right to vote!

I have been saying this for a few years now. I simply don’t like our choices and would like to feel good about who I am voting for.
November 5, 2024 at 10:58 am #2297698you are correct…….a no vote means the funding will be accessed on stearns cty homeowners via the property tax.
a yes vote means there will be a sales tax that will be spread out to everyone that spends money in Stearns cty.
the jail is getting built either way…..cause the state says so!!!!

Presidents are elected by people, not counties. Your vote matters, thank you for voting.

A write in vote for President naming Glenns dog Shadow will garner you much more personally than a vote for either party candidate.
tim hurleyPosts: 5851ThunderLund78Posts: 2680November 5, 2024 at 11:35 am #2297713Polls were busy in my precinct but operating very smoothly, everyone was smiling and I was in-and-out in 10 minutes. As I was waiting to sign the log book I looked towards the voting booths and noticed a young lady who obviously just didn’t roll out of bed, her hair and make-up were on-point. But that’s not why I noticed her, what caught my attention was that she was taking a selfie in the voting booth. I hope that makes her feel good, I’m sure she’s an inspiration to many on social media.

shadow thanks you for your vote and support.
From the time I left the house till I walked out of city hall was a whole 10 minutes
November 5, 2024 at 11:41 am #2297717Just voted at city hall, quite the line but it moved very fast and was in and out in under 10 minutes. Get out and vote, outdoorspeople could end up deciding who wins.

November 5, 2024 at 11:50 am #2297724Was there still people outside holding signs. Thought you couldnt do that. They were in Carver and Chaska when I came to work.
November 5, 2024 at 11:50 am #2297725How can there be voting lines anywhere? It’d widely reported that there have been 80 MILLION absentee votes cast already. How many people do they think are eligable to vote?

If that comment was directed towards me that’s fair and I agree people should do their research and vote for who they feel is best. Reason I asked about the school board was my kids don’t go to the district my taxes go to so I haven’t keep up on that. I can’t vote for the school board(I would really like to) where my kids go since we don’t like in that town. I feel not voting for that is better than making a blind vote.
DeucesPosts: 5268November 5, 2024 at 12:22 pm #2297737Took me at least half hour, but usually it’s pretty quick.
This is the first year i got a mail in ballot, never sent it in tho Didn’t have an issue, brought it with me anyways in case they needed it. Didn’t even register on their PC so didn’t mention it.
