Does anyone know where you can purchase replacement plastics? Trigger x no longer supplies them, they only supply the plastic on new VMC waxtail jigs. I cannot afford to buy new jigs every time the plastic gets ripped.

    Welcome aboard Bill.

I thought I’d read somewhere that the TriggerX panfish sized plastics were only going to be made available on pre-rigged jigs now. I may have mis-read. Maybe someone who knows more about the Trigger X stuff will chime in.

Tom your right, the packs of Trigger X plastics are discontinued. They are only making enough to make the pre rigged jigs. I have seen a few places that still have some packs left from last year not not many.

Gone the way of Sure set hooks. Seems odd a company goes through R&D, marketing, advertising, they make the product popular and then discontinue the product. ????

I don’t know. I mean I guess I get it. Fishing is a niche market as it is. Then get into ice fishing and the niche gets even tighter. I know sure-set trebles were introduced as crank bait hooks then tip-up guys got ahold of them and I believe that’s where that market stayed. And honestly, that’s not enough people to profit from. So, we get discontinued products.

Same probably goes for the loose Trigger X packs. I loved them for fishing under a float on soft water. Worked killer for crappie. They seemed popular enough though. I do remember seeing some discounted packs on the shelf last spring that looked like the plastics started to deteriorate badly due to people molesting the packaging. They seemed to almost be dissolving in real tiny chunks. That could be another reason why they are going with just the pre-rigged jigs. More durability. Could be that they can produce less of them for the pre-rigs so they aren’t wasting anymore resources by producing 10 packs people aren’t buying.

Usually seems to be the case though. A company comes out with some really great products and the demand just isn’t there to justify financing production. At the end of the day they are a business and profit margins dictate most decisions. I can’t say I blame them but I sure do miss those products.

I believe James posted that it was more of a production issue; that demand for prerigged jigs is up and they choose to fulfill that demand over the bulk plastics.

Exactly. While some consumers want the bulk tails in a bag the market shift has been heavily weighted towards customers that want pre-rigged. So much so that Rapala had to chosen between meeting demand for pre-rigged and cutting the bulk bags or keeping the bulk bags, where demand was declining, and not meeting demand for pre-rigged.

My hope is they find a way to increase production in the future so they can meet the growing demand for pre-rigged and bring back the bulk bags.

Think they would, it cost them .15cents to make and they sell them for $3.99
The shark tank guys would be all over this at kind of profit.

Lots of the plastics custom plastic bait makers use today will not cloud if the baits are placed in jars of Gulp products. The plastic I use in making my baits stays as clear as right out of the mold. I have jars of gulp juice and baits loaded with productive baits I make. The plastic I use will absorb a small amount of the gulp product by osmosis and it seems to work well in the short term.

Also, for those who have any packages of Trigger X baits hanging around [not chartreuse, fl.orange or hot pink as these can bleed badly] try putting some of your favorite non-trigger x baits in with what’s in there for a couple weeks. The oils and other liquids can get absorbed somewhat making those other baits as effective as the Trigger X baits were. You can do the same with Powerbait too.

Personally I think its a market ploy that the plastics were discontinued EXCEPT as a complete lure because a single tail on a jig at almost $7.00 retail makes way more money than a package of baits. The wholesale value is way higher than the wholesale cost of the bag of baits. People wanted the baits, but all I hear is people buying other products because they won’t put out what’s being charged for the bait/jig combo when the bait is only going to rip off after a few fish. Smart anglers should just say no to this kind of rip-off.

Would like thank everyone that responded. Hopefully in the future Trigger x will supply these tails in bulk as they are a excellent bait. Stay safe on all ice.

I have some of the first TriggerX plastics that came out,and they are still mint condition.I also found the colors I like online, and got a little hoard of them.Really like the waxtails and spikeworms. The Berkley powerbait ice plastics are ok,but not very durable.Does not take long for a whipworm to get beat-up.

I’ve been luck enough to go buy Cabela’s in Barrie, Ontario and was able to grab their last couple pack of Trigger-X waxtails. Call you locate Cabela’s and see if they have these Trigger-X in stock……
I know my friends from MN and OH have been buying the Trigger-X from an Ebay seller, seems to be shipped from the Buffalo area too.

Improvise. Many options out there. Perfect opportunity to spend some cash and try alternatives. You may find one that produces better.
