Tried a VMC Tungsten fly last week to no avail. Curious if people are tipping them with plastics or waxies for best results? Thanks.

It all depends in the fish, same lake same spots I’ve had days where the want plastics and days where the want waxies

Vmc tungsten fly is a killer but For me the fish wouldn’t touch it if I didn’t make sure my knot was pulled to the bottom of the eye hole. By doing this it makes the jig sit horizontal and I tipped mine with wigglers or waxies.

I put a mustache worm on my vmc tungsten fly. I caught more fish and bigger fish with the mustache worm.

I’ve had success with both, but typically have tipped with waxies. Also have caught a few fish fishing it naked. It’s a pretty solid panfish bait IMO

I was using one today and forgot my plastics in the truck so I started using them plain. And I caught a couple fish like that before I tipped it with a spike. That ice fly is a really versatile bait, I had to do the same thing David said and make sure the knot was letting it stay horizontal, when it was vertical I couldn’t get the same commitment out of the fish.

Thanks guys, it seems like it is made to be fished naked that’s why I asked.
