When the 1/16 oz VMC chandelier (TCJ116) first came out I notice it had a major problem with hooking itself. I like the lure but won’t use the 1/16 oz for this reason. Has anyone come up with a way to modify this lure to prevent self-hooking?

    Shrink tube
Pull the hook off and slide a small piece ove the split ring and put the hook back on…i do this on my lipless baits…not sure if it would take away from the action on the chandelier rig tho

I have thought about that but it would destroy the action of the lure. Have thought about adding a split ring and using shrink tube to the first ring. But then I am adding size to the lure.

VMC was aware of the issue and have changed the hook size to a #14. I’ve been using these jigs the last two years with a #14 hook and have worked flawlessly. Adding more components to the lower portion of the jig will either make the issue worse or reduce the action. I took it one step further and swapped out the stock treble with the VMC Glow Resin treble!! Matched the Glow Resin treble color to the Chandelier color. Fish catching combinations!!

Thank you bjmiller. I will swap out the hooks.
