Well kinda. It is general discussion so here goes my weird post of the day. I take a multi-vitamin approx 3 days per week. In addition I take a fish oil capsule. Lately I have been getting terrible fish oil burps for half a day afterwards. Is it possible the large bottle I have has gone bad or is that impossible? I dont recall this happening in the past but its every time now. They are supposed to be very good for you so I dont want to stop taking them but its getting sickening. I take them with food in the morning.

It’s possible that the fish oil has gone bad, but they usually put an expiration date on the bottle. I know that they make “burp-less” fish oil but I’ve always taken the regular kind and I’ve not had any issues with it. Perhaps something else in your diet changed and is now causing a burping reaction? Or maybe your Omega-3s are at a good level now and you don’t need as much and it’s causing the burping?

    LOL lol

It’s good that you’re taking it with food, but how much water are you taking with it? It’s recommended to drink 8oz of water when taking oral meds, but you don’t want to necessarily chug the whole 8oz.

I usually have approx 1 cup of milk with breakfast then go directly to a large glass of ice tea and sip on that for a while then refill. Ill try hammering some what with it next time and see how that goes. Thanks.

I am guessing yours is out dated and the oil is turning rancid. Check the bottle for an expiration date and smell the contents. Should not be very fishy smelling and definitely not rancid. If refrigerated, it will last longer and some say it should be refrigerated no matter what.

rmartin could be right. Otherwise, like others have said, “burp-less” fish oils have gotten very popular over the years and they’ve come a long way. The other big thing I’d suggest is consistency about when you take them. The difference between pills taken with food vs. without food came be huge.

Ill bet you guys are right. I will get a new bottle and keep it in the fridge.

IMHO, you should warm them up and double your dose. wave

I’m going with Nhamm’s advice over yours.

What brand are you taking? I know that the target brand is unofficially linked to a ton of allergic reactions. I’m guessing most cheap versions have the same risk.

If you have a chiropractor or eye doctor see if they sell fish oil. They will typically have the best quality stuff. Plus if you have an HSA it would be a qualified expense through them.

if you have a good diet, you don’t need no of that stuff, per my doc and nurse. I used to take them also but quit after that advise. they told me if you eat correctly your just peeing most of it out.

just my 2 cents!!!!!! besides, there’s a pork chop in each can!!!!!!!!

Carlson Cod Liver Oil is THE best. The old school Fish oil tasted like crap. This has a light lemon flavor with no fish taste or burp ever. You can find it at natural food stores. Give it a try you will never burp fish again.

I know the thought of taking a Tsp of Fish Oil sounds terrible but this is tasteless with a hint of Lemon. I have had my Friends try it reluctantly and they could not believe it was Fish oil. Thank me later.

Or you could just eat the fish itself. I believe 2 servings a week would meet or exceed what benefit you might get from daily fish oil supplements.

Salmon and tuna are high in the omega 3, but there are other’s too.

I’m thankful I like salmon and tuna and basically most all fish.
