It has started with a flurry of signings today in the NFL. Vikes have some money to spend and lots of holes to fill. This is a place for hope in 2025. toast

This Free Agency class definitely seems lackluster compared to most in recent years. A quick scroll through the “Top 50 Free Agents” available list as of this morning is pretty underwhelming.

The common theme between the teams that have been in the last few super bowls is that they seem to draft well with value, develop their talent from within, and have consistency in the coaching ranks.
The most active, hyped teams throwing money around in Free Agency are rarely the ones left standing come January/February.

We have needs for sure. Twitter doesn’t seem to be working for me so getting updates on things is harder. Watching cowherd now. WTF is Seattle doing? Trading Geno and Metcalf? I haven’t seen the return so maybe they did well but this really put a whole through their offense.

They admitted to going into TOTAL rebuild mode.
They are stock piling draft picks and already have like 4 or 5 in the 1st 3 rounds.

Geno + DK Metcalf weren’t getting the Seahawks anywhere. Losing sucks, but losing and losing the same way year after year is worse. It’s the right move for Seattle in the long haul if they want to be anything more than .500 the next 5 seasons. I’d rather be them then the Browns paying Watson + now Garret (even if he is a stud) as it handcuffs them to at best medoicrity and more likely being bad for the next few years.

DK Metcalf just got $150 million from the Steelers despite having a pretty bad season by his standards. Hunter Henry (Tight End in a time split for a bad Patriots offense) had the same number of catches last season. Metcalf had a whopping 5 TDs on the year.

FA season but also release season as well. Lots of players become available that were not just FA’s.
In the Vikings case they hit pretty well on FA last off season with Greenard Van Ginkel Cashman. By all accounts not the top flight FA’s available last year.
The holes the Vikes need to fill are interior o line and d line which definitely have more moving parts than other positions.

Eagles MVP was a free agent. People were calling for the coach to be fired at the end of last season and beginning of this season.
No doubt hitting in your draft picks goes a long way but it takes way more than draft picks to assemble a team in the NFL.

I thought for sure Darnold would end up in Pittsburgh. That seemed like a better situation than Seattle right now, especially since they just unloaded Metcalf.

$55M Guaranteed for Darnold, those last two games cost him $45M minimum, probably close to $100M. $155M guaranteed doesn’t even get into the top 10 in Guaranteed money.

I completely understand the trading of Metcalf and Geno for Seattle, but I don’t understand the Darnold signing. You pay him that money (which isn’t league altering but is a nice chunk of change) to a guy who was phenomenal in all but 2 games in Minnesota…but possibly because of coaching and having all those weapons.

I thought a Justin Fields type player was a better fit for Seattle. He’d have cost even less but has some upside on a roster that has all but admitted to being in a rebuilding year.

Darnold seemed like the best fit for Pittsburgh with a very good defense and acquiring more offensive pieces. Now Pittsburgh has to be the favorite landing spot for Rodgers’ services I’d imagine.

Fields signed a 2 year deal with the Jets. So does that mean A Rodge is available ?

Darnold is a west coast guy. Fields can’t play. Life goes on in the NFL.
